Default Mayonaise isn't my favorite song.

For the longest time, told myself it was Ruby or Hummer. Both these versions of Ruby floor me...

...but I have to come clean. There's really only been one secret favorite all along.

I think it's the perfect blend of sad, sweet and nostalgic, which are really the qualities that have kept me listening to SP all these years.

I know, gay, right?

I mean it's hard to choose. that's what's great about the pumpkins: they can play stuff like Meladori and Ruby at the same concert

MM is fucking awesome

I've always thought mayo was repetitive and melodramatic

it surprises me that it consistently makes it to number 1 on reader polls and articles as the "best" SP song

one of the great things about SP for sure is their range

I mean, a song like Cupid de Locke and Tales of a Scorched Earth on the same album?

the only way to truly experience mayonaise is by listening to it while sad in high school and bonding with it

Yeah mayo is untouchable, but I can see why it's not everyone's fave. It's pretty heavy. But that chord progression by James is beyond words. Perfectly demonstrates the special capacity of music to convey emotions that don't have names

I usually say that Mayonaise is it by some sort of mental weird default where it's impossible to pick a favorite, so I go with it because it's just rock solid. Everything that's been said here -- gotta hear it and feel it while in HS, chord progression, being heavy, chords equating to feelings - it's just got it all.

I happened to land at the LA show last March where James came out and played for the first time again with Billy, and man - tough to beat that moment when he was all of a sudden there, and the possibility of this band once again being "that" good was there in the air again, and then they dropped into Mayonaise - forget it. Head to the 7:10 mark here:

While that's not the quintessential version of that song: it's way up there in my book now, as it's got the whole "new chapter" and "hope for the future" thing going on hardcore.

Favorite versions of Mayo?

i believe the accepted conventional nomenclature is "original poster" but whatev.

And any opportunity for me to mention my recent stunning studish success with the babes of netphoria should and will be seized by Fulltoke.
