Something that sucks about living in a city state is that if you want to travel more than 50 km in any direction, you need your passport and ID.

My 9 year old's year at school are going on a trip to a camp thing for a few nights. It's only 70km away, but I have to scan all his identity documents and send them to the school. I mean, we had to give them scans of those things, with the application form when we joined the school, so they should really have them on file. It doesn't make a huge amount of sense that I should have to scan them again. It's little stupid things like this that wear me down, here.

Having to fill out forms with the exact same info as the previous 175 you already filled out is an unspoken bane of parenting.

Just to enroll the kid in this school out here, I literally filled out close to 20 pages. Then there's been another 5 or so since. Literally the same info.

It's insane. I would complain about it, but they pressure the kids in class, by showing a growing list of names every day, of kids who are fully registered for the trip, so that the rest of the kids come home and nag at their parents to complete all the paperwork. So then if you refuse, or argue, it's really your kid who suffers. Bastards.

i just checked my bank account and realized i can and probably should turn off two recurring donations and an automatic order which will easily save me $100 smackers. my insurance is now 223/month and my expenses are changing again with school starting and a wedding in march. i am tranferring $150 into my savings for that twice a month and i am paying tim for a laptop he got me for school. i could have done without it but a laptop was actually required for one class.

anyway, last week i purchased this book (along with another copy of homage to catalonia) to help me budget. things that would be mundane to most are actually pleasant and satisfying to me so don't take pity. i'm actually pretty pumped and i think this is a habit i am going to like.
