This was the original Teargarden: https://smashing-pumpkins-recording-...os_Angeles,_CA Fast forward two years, Corgan got bored of this and wanted to do a stand-alone album with the new Jeff/Mikey/Nicole line-up and wrote mostly new songs for it. To justify it's existence and not seem like he was abandoning Teargarden (which he was, since Teargarden was already written in it's entirety in 2009), he backtracked and called it an "album within an album". Then this trend continued on and on with the following Monuments and Day For Night. If you want to count those unrelated projects as Teargarden, that's fine. But the reality is, based on everything the dude has said, Teargarden, conceptually, was a specific set of songs. Then Oceania was a different concept. Then Monuments and Day For Night were different concepts. Either this is a ridiculous con that people are feeding into, or that says a lot about the quality of 3/4ths of the original 2009 material if it needed to be replaced with Oceania and such. |

I remember when Monte used to post and get supper defensive when someone tried to bring this kind of logic to the conversation. Technically, they're all Corgan's songs. He could call Siamese Dream part of Teargarden if he wanted to, but it does not change the fact that the existence of the project was based on the delivery of the songs just as much as the songs themselves. Hell, I will even give Corgan benefit of the doubt and say Oceania could be considered part of Teargarden, since I can see those songs as an outgrowth of the TbK songs, but to call Monuments to an Elegy part of it was absurd, and Corgan even admitted as much in interviews around the time. |

What I'd like to know is why the image of someone clearly standing with a tree behind him, Took is flipped (see the logo)
When Teargarden was announced, I made a thread trying to explain the title, and God help me — o, God forgive me! — I cannot remember if I was serious |

When the fuck is Corgan releasing "Blurricane?" You can't name a song that and not let us hear it.

For me TG is the 13 or so songs that came out online. The rest are different albums.
Perhaps one day we'll hear all those demos. Would be interesting to see what was dropped, as I can guarantee there's probably some tracks there that are way better than what did come out. What he should've done was record them all, spend a year doing it, and then once they were all recorded he could release them regularly over a set period of time. I reckon he just got bored recording them ad hoc, and was reluctant to keep going, hence the long delays between songs. Either that or halfway through he realised the songs were no good, or not good as live band songs, which the songs on Oceania were. Last edited by eviltimeban : 11-15-2019 at 05:39 AM. |

I went down to the park today in Puerto Rico just to see if it was there or not. But it wasn't. There was only a sketch of what used to be. Something vague and shimmering beneath the surface. A football. A kite. A frisbee. Fragments of my imagination or real things?

I was surfin' around Youtube the other night and came across this cool rarity and it made me think of ya, mainly just cause you kinda give off Ocasek vibes with your photos and the whole post-punk thing. Pretty rad clip though, hey? |

The assertion that Oceania was part of TbK always seemed disingenuous to me. Oceania doesn't even sound like a cohesive continuation of that project. For fuck's sake, volume 3 was abandoned halfway through and never even saw a collected release, unlike Oceania. So until Vol 3 is completed, there will always be a gap between it and Oceania where we would expect to hear at least two songs before beginning the next chapter of the series. TbK is such a mess of messes. Quote:
Of course in true self-sabotaging form, Billy has never officially released the song, not even the demo from the livestream. Quote:
The biggest and most fundamental flaw of TbK is that none of the songs were even any good. I might have put up with the overly-sporadic and delayed releases if they had released good, well-liked and well-received songs. There was a decent number to choose from. Oceania is a pretty boring white-bread album but at least it's better than TbK, far better in terms of writing, production, and especially overall cohesiveness. Could have used a better drummer tho. |

I can't believe that I was following the band for as long as I did. Then I stopped paying attention just when it seemed like Billy might be making sorta kinda halfway decentish music.
Should I bother listening to Ogilala and Shiney Metal Ass, Vol. 1 / LP EP CD :;;? |
