Angry Hundreds of thousands of master tapes of artists you love burning IN HELL

*of songs from master tapes, fuck I'm too angry to type properly

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/06/11/m...ecordings.html

TL; DR:

UMG stored decades worth of recording masters in a parking lot warehouse with next to no safeguarding, the whole thing burned down in 2008, they lied about the extent of the losses for years, and now we know thousands upon thousands of original recordings and who knows how much known and unheard material is now lost forever, never to be heard, never to be released or remastered.

would have loved to get a classic Shallowed "ok" on this one

that being said, holy shit. a good argument for why artists should own their own masters, I guess

Burl Ives? Those motherfuckers!

This is even sadder if you pretend the tapes were their uploaded consciousnesses like that episode of Black Mirror
