tbh most people i know who aren't really pumpkins fans think Billy's just the singer. there's a reason he gets listed as one of the most underrated players of the 90s

Post Well done!

Ghosts and Knights sounded good on Kimmel. The scream at the end of Knights was fantastic. The way Billy walked towards James before the Knights guitar solo made me laugh too - Ava Adore video flashback.

billboard had kind things to say about the new songs and the Jimmy Kimmel performance

Quote:
Smashing Pumpkins Bring Gloomy Holiday Cheer to 'Jimmy Kimmel' With Rousing 'Silvery Sometimes (Ghosts)': Watch

The Smashing Pumpkins wrecked Jimmy Kimmel Live with compelling performances of “Silvery Sometimes (Ghosts)” and “Knights of Malta” from their recent Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun. album on Tuesday night (Dec. 11).
https://www.billboard.com/articles/c...of-malta-watch

It goes to show that what is forgettable dad rock to some, is "compelling" and"rousing" to others.

Forgettable BILLBOARD article about the Pumpkins scratching the Alternative Charts again (38 at peak):

The Smashing Pumpkins Scare Up First Alternative Songs Chart Hit Since 2012 With 'Silvery Sometimes (Ghosts)'

https://www.billboard.com/articles/c...ve-songs-chart

The song floats in at No. 40.

Like so many things that turn pumpkin-spiced this time of year, so does Billboard's Alternative Songs airplay chart.

The Smashing Pumpkins make their first appearance on the list (dated Oct. 20) since 2012, as "Silvery Sometimes (Ghosts)" debuts at No. 40.

Also appropriate for the season is the song's video, in which the Billy Corgan-led band spends a night in a haunted mansion for a radio promotion. Portraying "Z109" DJ in the clip? Sugar Ray's Mark McGrath.

The Smashing Pumpkins made their first Alternative Songs visit nearly 27 years ago, when "Rhinoceros" bowed at No. 28 on the chart dated Nov. 9, 1991, before peaking at No. 27 the following frame.

The band has earned 17 top 10s on the tally, starting with "Cherub Rock" (No. 7) in 1993. The group led the list with "1979" in 1996.

I saw that Lin-Manuel Miranda digs the new Pumpkins album. I guess that means Billy is doing something right? Maybe?

They look cooler in the soundcheck picture than they did for the gig (if that's what that is).

They should just wear "ordinary" clothes.

Yeah he should wear normal clothes, sing normal, produce his songs normal. Just be normal and let the songwriting speak for itself.

Billy: I'm still seeing photos I took when I was 24 where I looked like shit. There was no one to stand there and say, "Don't do that, don't wear that, you look like a fuckin poof."

Wow this silvery sounds so flat live.
Billy misses 2 outta 4 notes. Respect!
For a musician or singer this vocal live performance of bully must be painful

Billy came across as a cool guy back when he claims he was "dressing like a poof" (yet now he wears dresses on stage and scarves in public). Lots of psychedelic button up shirts and hair style. Even his guitar solos were a lot more psychedelic. He seemed modest.

It's hard to imagine the Corgan of the early 90's going on to be the guy who interviewed with Alex Jones, someone who constantly flings shit in every direction. It seems he changed most dramatically when Siamese Dream became a big hit, you can see a shift in his interviews between '94 and '95. In the '94 interviews, he seems like a fun guy having a good time, but then you listen to '95 interviews, he pretty much sounds like the condescending explainer-of-everything he's been ever since. He said the song Today was about suicide, and in a way it's as if the person he was before did commit suicide, and some bald interloper assumed his likeness. It's like he got half way through making MCIS, and somehow died, for all intents and purposes.

He seemed modest in MTV interviews. He'd let the other band members speak. He was occasionally deferential. He would admit to being unsure about things when asked.

admitting that Billy wasn't always quite so bad doesn't make you a lesser person

OK, I will think about this. Thanks for the recommendation. Still, I think that BC was always an asshole, maybe just a less delusional one.
