Default Remember when most of netphoria wanted to go to war with Iraq?

Back in '03 and I was one of the few who thought it was a horrible idea. I told you so. You people are so gullible. WMDs!!

i remember the opposite. netphoria was refreshingly cynical of post-9/11 jingoism and that's probably why i stuck around. not saying the board didn't have its bush supporters though (you know who you are. you yes you)

Remember how Christopher Hitchens supported it and everybody still thinks he's a genius? That's a funny one.

i'm kind of ashamed of my fandom of him
i knew him as just as an atheist and a drunk who hated mother theresa and found that entertaining and didn't bother to look into the rest of his politics or personality. i imagine he considered himself a "womanizer"

i wonder if even mother theresa was that bad

Would like to know where are all the anti-war activist now?

I was initially in support of the Iraq war, mainly because I was believing what we were being told about the larger war on terrorism but it was at this point in the b.s. WMD narrative that serious reservations were warranted.

Slowly but surely over time I looked behind the curtain and saw the Bush family empire staring back with a swastika in the background. Nasty stuff those tricksters, pulling a gog/mogag show with 9/11 and all...bastards.

Also everybody who opposed the wars in the Middle East was a CIA operative who knew the information every American received wasn't true.

Why did you, like most Americans, believe a man like Bush?

Obama's lack of support was a strategy to trick the public

Christopher Hitchens is what happens when you dedicate your life to the proposition that extremism is only caused by religious belief and institutions, and not by over half a century of civil strife directly caused by large countries projecting their power.

All the 'new atheists' are like that. Sam Harris and Richard Dawkins are just as bad. Their politics are ridiculous, because they think if we wipe out Islam everything will be okay.

They unequivocally blame all the problems in the middle east on religion. The "wipe out" thing was hyperbole, but their views on this issue aren't exactly nuanced.

the "everything will be ok" was the more hyperbolic portion of the sentence, i think

you clearly hold yourself to different standards than others with certain topics.

Yes, that was also kind of hyperbolic. Maybe I am being hypocritical, yeah. The thing is, I just finished a thesis chapter on these guys. I am being hyperbolic, but not that hyperbolic. They genuinely think most of the worlds problems would melt away without religion. Dawkins view is that we are just riding a wave of progress, with science on the crest, and religion is just one of those things stopping that wave from beautifully breaking. It is like he is from 1860 or something.

All Obama did was re-define soldiers to private contractors and claimed he ended the war. Of course, when you have a media that's in bed with the government and a populace too anemic to see what's obvious, it means a President can invent the truth and his minions will flock to it and any word otherwise is blasphemous to the greater cause Obama is doing.

That's the brainwash in a nutshell.
