Default Mark Kozelek - Marque Quocelecque

Is his new album and sounds dreamy as fuck, really like it. Yes it's a continuation of the more rambling trip he's been on the last few years, but guitar wise it reminds me somewhat of admiral fell promises.

i have no idea why this album is released as Mark Kozelek as most of the SKM albums have been The Mark Kozelek Show; don't really see what the difference is anymore.

Ok bye have a good life

I really can’t stand his newer vocal style. I checked out after Benji.
Ghosts of the Great Highway and April are amazing, along with some of his older solo and RHP stuff

I always check out his new shit even though I'm mostly with Turalyon. He lost me after Admiral Fell and although Among the Leaves and Benji both have good shit on them, for the most part I just can't get into the changes he has made to his music

I will definitely listen at least once though

what differentiates this as a solo album as opposed to the last few sun kil moon releases?

nah. admiral fell promises was just him on guitar, that album was released as sun kil moon. this has Steve Shelley on drums and Anders Breivik (puzzledmuzzle) on backing vocals

as for what differentiates his different monikers, nothing. Years ago he was asked why he started releasing stuff under Sun Kil Moon instead of RHP and he said it was just so he could feel more like he was doing a new thing

Have you heard any of the albums in between? It's really different, just some of the guitar work made me think of it, even though this is all a lot simpler.

is there any link where i can listen to the new record? quick search brought up nothing and i'm being lazy

i feel like i can give kozelek an honest chance this time around. even though i still don't really like the direction he's gone in, but understand and sympathize it

Though I prefer infrequent flying
Though for perfection, I've stopped trying
My love for you is undying

[text]

Though some may find my specifying agonizing and trying
Long-winded and unsatisfying
Others may find it hypnotizing, comforting, and inspiring
Relatable and consoling

i honestly get that the dude is complex and he simply is not in the frame of mind to make the same music like he used to anymore, and that's fine.. and i even like some of his new music, for a few moments, sometimes... but somehow getting a 13 minute long song from a musician and writer this accomplished, and having it basically contain one or two riffs and based wholly on ONE musical phrase... it just feels so lazy, it's verging on disrespectful. its only real, long-lasting virtue is providing unusual, blatant honesty from an artist.

it's like, if you don't wanna make music anymore dude, maybe just don't?

I get it completely, it's like he lost any remnant of quality control after Benji.

Still, for some reason, the way he does things nowadays has its charm and I usually still like most of what he does. Took me some time to get into it though.

I walked out on a show that I saw when he played here in Amsterdam though. The sound was horrible and it took 3,5 hours and I couldn't bear it anymore

it can be if it's Mount Eerie

https://pwelverumandsun.bandcamp.com/album/now-only

his last album, clearly influenced by M-Koz, just like the one before. probably my favourite this year.

I wonder if he's ever going to write stuff that's not about his dead wife

i walked out in shanghai. he didn't play any guitar, but rather was accompanied by a weird+sloppy band consisted of two yamaha keyboard players and a drummer, lol. he sounded like he had just woken up and was reading/singing/reeling his lyrics off pages. seriously a huge fucking disappointment that was. and even with how awful it was, some moments it was still somehow great to hear him sing live. that voice. i really just wish it was a better set.

The first time I saw him was 2008, and he played 3.5 hours of literally all his best songs and fan favorites spanning his whole career. Last time I saw him was 2014 and didn't play a single song from before Admiral Fell Promises

I love this album, it's one of his best albums in his career in my opinion.

All the Sun Kil Moon albums are great too. Beautiful songs:

He's a great guitarist

I love the stories

well god dammit that was good.

i was a little weary since last time fucking sucked but he was great. guy's a comedian, I would subscribe if he filled Louis ck's spot.

he was accompanied by a guitar player and a pianist that both really knew their shit, which was a relief since he sometimes seems to be playing with people that seemingly hardly know the songs. also he mentioned the new Sun Kil Moon album will be with them - with music written by those two musicians and lyrics by him, out on march 1st.
