Default THE RAMONES

I've been on a huge Ramones kick lately. I started off by reading Marky Ramones book and then I checked out the 2003 documentary and now I just finished Johnny Ramones memoir.

What a storied history. Just an utterly compelling group. I have so much more respect for their music now that I'm familiar with the inner workings of the group. I mean, I always liked the marquee songs and what not, but there's so much more to sink your teeth into.

I never realized Joey Ramone was such a nutcase, but his vocals and phrasing really are one of the main things that make the group so awesome.

For example:

It's hilarious that Phil Spector produced a Ramones album.

lmao. That was with Johnny for the opening chord of Rock N Roll Highschool. The story's exaggerated though. Apparently it was true that Phil had him play the opening chord for something like 7 or 8 hours, and apparently Phil kept on screaming and banging the console and at one point pulled out his gun and placed it next to him by the console. Marky didn't think that it wasn't meant to be done as an intimidation factor, but others disagree. Eventually Johnny just got pissed and left though and all Phil did was scream at him.

Gnarly! I didn't even know he toured or anything. It's hilarious that they just got the ultimate Dee Dee doppelganger. Guy even did the 1, 2, 3, 4 thing to a tee.

Yeah I'm not a huge fan or anything; my gf is, and she brought me. He was touring for his new solo album.

At the show he pretty much said since he's the last Ramone alive, he was going to play all the Ramones songs he's always wanted to play, but the other Ramones didn't want to. Sure enough, the set was a mix of his own solo stuff and lots of more obscure Ramones tracks I had never heard before.

Also his backing band was like half his age, which was kinda funny.

I like that since you've read a book and listened to some Ramones songs over the course of a week, you are now THE expert of The Ramones on Net4ya.

The Ramones have all dropped dead at an alarming rate, but I'd consider Marky more of a meaningful member... At least as far as being featured on the important work goes. That's rad that he's keeping the legacy alive though. Dude did a rad job at filling some pretty massive shoes. It is kind of ironic that now he is the guy playing with musicians half his age.

I'm gonna google his tour dates though. I wanna see that shit!

Dude... Since when did you become Captain Butthurt of Netphoria? First you're targetting Elph for nothing but elitist reasons, then you post sexually explicit fetish clips on my reputation page (for reasons unbeknownst to me) and now you're mad about a good-nature Ramones thread? Get bent, buddy.

For one, I was very well versed with the Ramones "greatest hits" since I was like 17. But at the time I was a shit that didn't appreciate their historic significance. And over the past month I've read 2 memoirs (I'm 1/3 of the way through my 3rd - Joeys brothers book about him) and watched the documentary and it's sent me on a deeper wormhole of fandom... And lo and behold, I actually enjoy a lot of the deeper cuts more than the "hits".

Lastly, I never claimed to be any "expert". The facts were just simply fresh in my mind since I've read the books recently.

Killer clip

The one thing Johnny Ramone stressed in his memoir (which he wrote shortly before he died) was that the Ramones were all about the live show. The songs are great, but he stressed that when the band really shined was when they were on stage. And fuck... I haven't even scratched the surface on youtube yet, but shit... they always brought it. Hell, that's what punks all about.
