- Sputnik Music

- Washington Post

- Gigwise

I mean, they probably don't listen to real dubstep like you do, and that's probably why basically every review mentions the dubstep influences.

Shall we read further, just in case?

I mean, they are probably all wrong.
Yes, I would say they are. Keep listening to these rags instead of your own ears. These are all trash rags looking to capture the attention of the lowest common denominator of "music listener." If one says "dubstep" the other follows along because they're all vowing for your attention in a world that could care less for reading a music magazine or newspaper.

I'm sorry, but there is a glaringly huge difference between the sound of TKOL compared to Thom Yorke's solo work like The Eraser and the collaborative release he did with Burial (a dubstep producer) and Four Tet (a minimal/house producer). His solo work has always been heavily influenced by electronic music genres including dubstep and it is where he is allowed to push that style of music further in that direction. Burial is real dubstep. But sonically, TKOL and Thom's solo share nothing except for his voice. If you put on The Eraser and TKOL and can say their similar at all, you need your hearing check. Just because something has sub-bass or bass driven, doesn’t automatically make it dubstep. Thom still uses basslines in a funky, rhythmic, jazz kinda way on his solo work. Dubstep grew out of the Grime and UK Garage scene. Dubstep... the important word is dub. Dubstep is heavily influenced on ragga/dub/reggae basslines and two step beats that give it a bounce... hence dubstep. I can sometimes hear that two step style in some of Thom's solo beats, but none of the dub/ragga that dubstep is mainly known for. 90s artists like Leftfield and Meat Beat Manifesto were already doing this stuff years ago. This nonsense term post-dubstep just means jazzy electronic music, which is nothing new, but for some reason bloggers needed a new branding instead of just saying jazz influenced electronic music. They needed to throw dubstep into it to feel fresh and new.

TKOL is listed as electronic/rock with styles listed as Abstract, Downtempo, Experimental on Discogs, sorry no dubstep.

The Eraser is listed as electronic/rock with styles listed as Art Rock, IDM, Electro, Indie Rock, Experimental, again no dubstep mentioned. I could see The Eraser confused for dubstep, but even here it is not.

Out of Yorke's solo albums, only the Four Tet/Burial collab is listed as house/dubstep. To be honest, I trust the folks on Discogs more than these horrid music blogs as Discogs listing contributions are a large community effort and not a review by shitty music bloggers all fighting over the same disinterested, casual music listener looking to capture their attention with some newly coined genre. It seems these bloggers can't distinguish between IDM and dubstep and shit Skrillex makes and whatever electronic music sounds foreign to them is now suddenly labeled dubstep... I'm sorry, post-dubstep They'll be calling Aphex Twin post-dubstep soon.

Blogger says some nonsense like "Oh, it's so experimental. It's that new dubstep sound". and your casual listener will read that review and be like "Dubstep? Oh, I heard something about that. It's the newest thing apparently. I should check this out." Blogger then goes "But wait, this ain't just your ordinary dubstep. That's so 10 minutes ago. This is post-dubstep." and your reader goes "Oh wow, that sounds newer and more interesting." These bloggers all want to coin the latest musical phrase, just like how the US coined Electronica in the 90s and rebranded it as EDM here so we can make it sound new and interesting.

I'm sorry, but this doesn't sound like TKOL...

For what it is worth - the premium seats are a few hundred dollars less expensive now. Supply and Demand

How many tickets a gig should sell to be considered a success? More than 70%? 80%?

Those are actually some pretty solid sales. Better than I would've expected. 90's nostalgia is super hot rot now though. There's a corny "I love the 90's" tour that sells like gangbusters featuring artists like Coolio.

By sold, you mean percent unavailable through ticketmaster. Still will be some through other secondary sellers like stubhub and vivid seats.

I am not going to go through all of those links, but if you think something is 75% sold, it's probably really only 65%.

That all said though, sales traditionally are the most in the first few days after being released and the last few days before the concert. I would think a lot of these places will get to 90% capacity by the time the concert starts.

Still, WAY WAY more profitable than playing theaters.

Yeah, that's true. People had noticed that 1 random day later tons of tickets were gone from all of the venues. The thought is that it was probably tickets going to sites like Groupon or whatever. But I'm not really sure about all of that stuff works.

What I think is going to actually happen is they are going to do a Euro tour in the fall - might hit some SA and Japan too. After that, they gonna come back to the US and tour the new songs. That's the part that gets dicey though on the type of venues. A) People just saw them and B) it's not the hits. Might scale it back some. But I would be very surprised if they didn't tour the new album.

After what happened last tour in Europe and with how slow this one is selling here I don't see Billy going there anytime soon.

Billy this voice is great. Sung from the depth of your soul. Hopefully the new stuff brittle and rough interrupted by beatiful psychedelic ballads- and an acoustic billy with subtle electronics ending the album

There is zero debate this is selling slow. You could argue it's selling well, but you can not say it's selling tickets quickly.

Learning to not argue against self-evident realities is an important skill to learn in life.

Well means satisfactory and for well-past-prime reunion-4.0-Pumpkins 75% full with sellouts in major markets is satisfactory.
