This thing sounds absolutely immense in person.
I bought a matching Diezel cab for it shortly after it came in.

Actually these originals are my Herbert blended with an orange rocker 30 with a mxr sub machine fuzz. 727 is probably my favorite song I've written.

That's an awesome setup. The recordings sound amazing, too. Do you mix them, yourself? Would love to hear some recording techniques you use to capture the guitar and bass.

Thanks! My singer killed himself in January after we went to Memphis,TN to record with Justin Rimer as producer/engineer. He does some amazing work in his small studio.
The bass was recorded over 2 tracks.
Cheap Mexican standard P Bass into an Eden World Tour DI then into an Avalon Pre and a 2nd signal out of the Eden into my Manley Core channel strip.
Guitars were primarily my PRS Singlecut into my Diezel Herbert. Another layer was an Orange Rocker 30 with my MXR Sub Machine Fuzz. 3rd layer at the intro of 727 was my Fernandes Decade Elite into a Supro 2x10 combo. The 2 primary guitar layers were triple mic'd with a SM57,421 and a Beyerdynamic M201.

We had no idea he was on meth. He got ahold of something laced and was out of his mind when he jumped off of a 75ft airport tower. We were planning on pumping about 10 grand into a single release for SiriusXM soon.

it's almost as if you're ripping off Billy Corgan with bandmate fatalities, as well.

Damn, really that sucks, what happened with your singer. A very rock way to go, but sorry to hear it, man.

Cool recording details. I think the MXR Sub Machine Fuzz might be contributing some of that nice crunch sound I'm hearing. Looking at a demo of that pedal, it sound awesome even on its own, very Pumpkins-like.

Another newer pedal that does that is the EHX Cock Fight. The newer production version of it (not the one in a wah-pedal chassis) has an internal switch that can be flipped to turn off the wah portion of the pedal and leave the fuzz portion on, when the switches on the front of the pedal are set a particular way.

That pedal has a Bias knob, which adjusts the voltage of the fuzz circuit to emulate the effects of a low-power battery, which can give a really spitty, gritty sound, that sounds very reminiscent of some early Pumpkins guitar tones. I'd guess that BC might've gotten an aspect of some song's sounds by using dying batteries in his pedals.

I wonder if listing those guitars' pricing could've been part of a strategy, to attract attention and talk over the store, and create an impression of value for the rest. Maybe they were priced to not sell. Then again, maybe somebody bought them and didn't want it publicized that they were sold.

I wish Billy had taken me up on my $33 offer for the SD strat. But, I would've had to wait for my next cheque to pay for it, anyways.

i always figured those guitars were priced as high as literally possible in Reverb's system, just to make the point that people should make high offers for it

One of my friends got a top 40 charting song from doing that so he gave me a good radio promoter contact that works with a lot of popular octane bands. We had the plan to go that route and just see what happens. Hopefully I can release the tracks soon via ep.

The Sub Machine is so good when you turn the sub part off. It's basically a la machine without it. One a few tracks we would turn the sub octave up about 1/4 of the way for some girth.

I'm definitely gonna check out the ehx pedal you mentioned. That battery setting sounds really handy for layering.

for dying battery sound on fuzz pedals just use the sag channels on a PP2+

While setting up mics and testing phase yesterday I recorded a few chords with different pedal setups, including the EHX Cock Fight:

https://youtu.be/G2reCITzDp4?t=45

That's how it sounds with the bias setting turned about half-way down, and the gain mostly up.

I also did played a bit with a NYC Big Muff going into an op-amp Big Muff:

https://youtu.be/G2reCITzDp4?t=185

Getting into SD-territory, and that's without doing any specific tone dialing in. I bet a lot of the album sound is stacked Muffs. Maybe an op-amp Muff into an op-amp Muff will be even closer-sounding to the SD stuff.

So I guess, knowing what we know now, this was Billy's attempt to make some money after getting himself in debt from wrestling.
