We have friends who live in this condo near us, which is super lego-y. I can't really believe my eyes when I look at it. |

this little cutie (little guy on the right) left us friday night after a whole week. he showed up last friday and we took him in to be checked for a chip the next day and he was also given some vaccinations. we mentioned to a girl who works at the vet that we didn't want to keep him (4 cats 2 much) and she said she and her fiance wanted a cat but couldn't pick him up for another week. within a few days he was part of our gang of cats and really switched up the dynamic, which is a good thing. karl and sheila (bro and sis) can be cliquish leaving leon with no one to play with unless karl is bored of sheila. this little dude was star of the group. so we basically fostered him and didn't have to spend a single second in a crate or cold shelter. There are no people in the pics because I killed them to use for soup
I discovered the macro and micro content of their vital organs were simply too great for these treasure to go on existing inconveniently inside living people I feel great; my hair and eyes are shiny, the condition of my skin is beyond comparison. Highly recommended A++ |

Anynody have tips for getting portraits to look natural? I usually ask before I snap a picture of somebody, but the thing is that you can't do that without them instinctively posing. So, I get a lot of boring shots of people doing your standard weight-shift pose, looking directly into the camera, and smiling. I'm never as satisfied with my portraits as I am my photos of inanimate objects and scenes. But photographing people is more fun.
One of my best portrait shots was this one that was rushed, because I had to snap it quickly before her train came. In the photo, she's looking off-frame to her approaching train. Another set of good ones, I just snapped photos as we were talking and she was unlocking her bicycle, rather than having her stop and pose or anything. I read that "directing" subjects with emotions, motivations, attitudes etc. is more effective than "put that arm there, this leg here, look to your right," etc. But I tired that once, and it was really awkward and the photos were terrible. The only good one was the one where I caught them off guard. I don't know how to get more like the good ones I took. Those weren't the kind of instances you can just recreate on command. |

soft lighting. count to three and on 3 have them look at the camera. take tons of photos to capture that pose. this will give them a chance to refine their facial pose. repeat that. put them in different poses but repeat that process.
that's all i know. you want to capture a live body and not a stiff figure. |

doing a posed smile so it looks like a genuine smile of happiness or mirth is a skill that most people do not have, but it's pretty easy to learn to do. when most people smile for a camera, they do a "full" smile for a brief second and then almost instantly let a lot of the muscles in their face droop. This creates a notorious posed smile look. that is my only advice.

my dad takes photos like its the late 1800s. last time i counted it took him 45 seconds to take 3 photos.
maybe if they paid for me to go to art school it would matter more. |

my family prefers still, factual photographs.
zero emotion. no smiling. no laughing. no one is allowed to have a good time. |

i don't mind being photographed, i just hate being taken out of a space, forced to realize myself, take myself out of my own space, and then freeze and present myself in an entirely new dimension, within a matter of a minute or so.
its such an asshole thing to do. not to mention unprofessional. |
