Red face Modest Mouse is shit.

Random vocal warblations over random, sloppy jamming.

How can anyone kid themselves into believing this shit is listenable in the slightest?

I mean, is it the shit the guy is singing...or is it the shit way in which he's singing it that people like about the band?

What do you find appealing about some doofus babbling random crap over a bullshit jam?

YELPING WORDS HERE FOLKS!!! OBSERVE MY BROODING INTENSITY!!!

I bet no one knows why they like it, yet say they do because other fuckwits say it's cool.

i never understood why the default reason for someone liking something different than another person is because "someone told you to".

i mean, honestly, that's just a really lazy argument.

Ok, if you think someone yelping nonsense over a repetitive, bad jam is appealing, then you're obviously tone-deaf.

As someone who listens mostly to music and not lyrics, I appreciate Modest Mouse because the songs are jangly, sometimes pop-based, and the vocals are very sincere and have emotion behind them.

if you are turned off by music because it is not sung in tune then stick to the artists that can. for those of us who are willing to give a little on the vocals in exchange for some pretty dynamic and unique songs we will listen to modest mouse. just be aware that you are cutting out a large chunk of great music from your consciousness

well i tried ranking their albums but its pretty much chronological

this is a long drive
lonesome
building nothing
we were dead
moon and antarctica
good news

moon and antartica is their most consistent but none of the songs stand out. its kinda floats by and is pleasant enough to listen to but doesnt engage me

moon and antarctica suffers from bad production, length, and a couple of mediocre tracks. some songs definitely stand out imo

technically, the only albums they've had are

This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About
The Lonesome Crowded West
The Moon & Antarctica
Good News for People Who Love Bad News
We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank

building nothing and sad sappy are comps.

You named the exact aspects that Lonesome Crowded West suffers from, more than The Moon...

actually after the glow pt 2 i think modest mouse is the next universal thing around this board. the majority of the board seems to appreciate modest mouse for their entire repertoire

and i dont think anyone in their right mind would put good news over pretty much any album that came before it

if it wasnt for good news and the even more mediocre we were dead modest mouse would have the best discography in modern rock for me. sadly those two tainted it a bit.
