Exactly. People want the Machina reissue for:

- Better quality Arising-era stuff
- Outtakes and alt versions
- Cleaner Machina 2

Idk why anyone despised Machina. The production style was difficult but it at least hit the mark of what it was trying to be aesthetically. The faded, distorted sound is kinda cool, but it gets in the way of too many songs.

Compared to Zeitgeist which is trying to be a straight up accessible rock record but the production and singing is badly judged. It would explain a lot if Bill’s hearing was fucked, in terms of why he thinks he’s making big pop records and fans are constantly “why are you mixing this way?”

I HATED it when it came out. I can't overstate what a disappointment it was. It was asking way too much from a dumb teenagers patience and a poor teenagers shitty boombox.

With a good hifi system it's a very interesting sounding album, even the songs I don't like are full of cool textures.

Machina I is ok, it just has the wrong bunch of songs on it. Combine your favourite I and II songs and you've got a great SP album. Sprawling and flawed for sure, but still pretty great. That's my go to way of listening to it anyway.

Remember when SD wasn't a classic album? It was just a good summer album, released with little fanfare outside of the music press. It was only really when Today and Disarm took off did they get more interest. But really, right up to 1994 SP were just another big alternative band.

MCIS was the real crossover moment for SP, 1979 in particular. In the wake of MCIS, and the big singles and videos around the time, SD was nearly by fallen the wayside a little bit - a fan favourite, but you didn't see if in everyone's house - you did with MCIS.
