Honest Question about the Zero shirt

Billy owns the COPYRIGHT to the song Zero, and could maybe challenge anybody who attempted to trademark the "Zero" specifically for clothing similar to his T Shirt because he had proof that his preceeded the company copying him. The copyright covers the lyrics, music and any artwork that goes along with the song, single, album, etc., assuming the "ZERO" tshirt was his work alone and not licensed from another artist. The only thing bill would have any legal ground at all would be the use of the word in similar font on clothing along with the star. He would have to prove in court that Zero Skateboards profited off from the design that he created because people confused the Skateboard company with Bill's work. That would very difficult to prove in court.

Such a trademark challenge would have only been legally limited to clothing. Since trademarks need to be filed for specific USES. When it comes to brand names it may or may not ******* a logo. Zero Skateboards owns the trademark to "Zero Skateboards" for skateboards. I'm assuming they have a secondary trademark which covers their logo and use of it on clothing and other merch. Often companies like that will own many trademarks covering many uses of their name.

One big problem with the idea of bill trademarking the Zero tshirt is that a trademark would probably get rejected. If a trademark is deemed too general or vague it won't be granted trademark protection. Try trademarking the number "1" for use on clothing and see what happens. It will get rejected. If you wanted to trademark "Number 1 Clothing Company" you'd probably have no problem, however.

Zero Skateboards logo now, though, looks a lot more like that kid's t shirt from Toy Story.

I had no idea Zero was a skateboard thing until I got my Zero shirt when I was 14 and people started talking to me about skateboards. Knowing now that the Zero brand was started soon after BC wore the shirt and seeing the drastic similarity in design, I'm surprised Corgan didn't try to pursue some kind of action against the company.

I would still wear the Zero shirt if they were done better. The heart on the sleeve fucking ruins it

I think the heart on it's cool. And at least it differentiates it from being a general ole skateboard shirt

Mine got lost but if I had another I would wear it, they're really comfy and the sleeves are easy to rip thumb holes into. Yep.

I have never seen a non SP Zero shirt ever. I didn't even know that company existed. I guess not many people go skateboarding in our area.

I think it was Jackies from when I visited her in Toronto - don't remember how it could have happened though, unless she lent it to me inside out for lazer quest.


Shit it just dawned on me that she probably just put in my bag when I left.
