Book-related:

I guess Urban Outfitters is now stocking Book Shirts. I picked up a "Great Gatsby" shirt for which I paid far too much.

I love it, though.

i just finished reading this last night. it's pretty long so it took me a couple of weeks. i would give it a B++/A--. I've always wanted to read a biography of Joni Mitchell and even though I didn't care so much about Carole King and Carly Simon, the way the book was set up provided a great context. i usually really like biographies but i guess this author's style had some tabloid overtones that i just couldn't stand. aside from that, lots of information and cool stories.

Just read Red Badge of Courage. I enjoyed it, even if it was a little repetetive. But I really like war books like this - Red Badge, All Quiet, etc. If anyone could reccomend any others, I'd be appreciative.

01. The Stranger by Albert Camus
02. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
03. All Quiet On the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque
04. Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky
05. 1984 by George Orwell
06. The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane
07. Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
08. Animal Farm by George Orwell
09. Lord of the Flies by William Golding
10. The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemmingway
11. Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck

next up is Heart of Darkness!

You should read some more Hemingway dude. A Farewell to Arms is pretty much the best war novel ever, even though it's quite different than the others you mentioned. I don't like the Old Man and the Sea that much either so don't sweat that.

oh Wonder Boys - C

I dig this guy's (Michael Chabon) writing style a fair amount but despise all of his characters. I guess I'll check out the movie.

Just finished re-reading Killing Yourself to Live by Chuck Klosterman. I love that book. I guess serious music people would not care for all the relationship meandering, but as a girl, guy relationship meandering is very interesting. Especially in relation to KISS.

i think you'll like the movie, Nate

i just finished reading Alice Sebold's The Lovely Bones... i resisted reading it for a long time, but then i picked it up for $10 last week and read it right away. it made me pretty uncomfortable and it seemed a little forced at times, but I would probably still give it a B+/A-. Don't really know why this was such a huge bestseller, i think Anne-Marie Macdonald does a better job of writing about things like this.

i love klosterman. I just started reading Klosterman 4 but cant really seem to get into it, as it isn't much more than a bunch of interviews, while the others at least had some kind of narrative.

I didn't really care for the interview section, especially since most of the bands profiled hold absolutely no interest for me. It definitely gets better once it gets into his personal essays in part 2 and I really liked the fiction part. I'm really looking forward to his novel now.

Actually I just picked up Farewell To Arms (for like a couple of bucks at Half Price Books, the best store ever) because I've heard so much about it.

I guess I can give it a whirl after HOD.

There is a big debate over that book in history circles as to whether it is fiction/ non-fiction. To be honest it doesn't really matter.

Finished Heartof Darkness and I feelit was just a waste of time. Too much clutter or something. I really don't like the writing, but the story overallwas decent, I guess.

01. The Stranger by Albert Camus
02. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
03. All Quiet On the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque
04. Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky
05. 1984 by George Orwell

07. Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
08. Animal Farm by George Orwell
09. Lord of the Flies by William Golding
10. The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemmingway
11. Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad
12. Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck

Next up is another short novel, The Death of Ivan Ilyich by Tolstoy

I thought Heart of Darkness was one of the few really captivating books I read for high school curriculum, but the writing hit me much more than the story. The storyline wasn't that eventful from what I recall, but I can't remember all of it now.

Flight, by Sherman Alexie -- this book was awesome. I'm so glad Alexie has started writing young adult books. I laughed, I cried....

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, by Hunter S. Thompson -- absolutely crazy.
