I'm surprised at how divisive this album is among Pumpkins fans. Zeitgeist, Teargarden, Oceania, MTAE all had obvious failings which most fans recognised immediately. Poor production, shit vocals, repetitive lyrics, no emotion, bad song choices etc etc The chasm between any of those albums and vintage SP is just inescapable.

But I don't feel that same chasm here. Mandarynne and Archer are superb and in terms of quality could fit comfortably on Adore. Zowie and Processional are also very good.

Maybe I got a little carried away with an 8, there are a couple forgettable tracks, but anyone who gives less than a 6 is just fucking touched.

4-6 is reasonable imo. 8 is totally fanboy but that's ok. an 8 album needs to have a really really good song at least. fuck even machina i wouldnt give an 8 and i really like glass/ghost children and wound and with every light and age of innocence and siyl and i of the mourning

i think mandarynne and half life and archer are sp1 b-side quality, with a full band those first two could be sp1 album quality. for the record i think whatever the fuck the last song on zeitgeist is was sp1 quality and bleeding the orchid, starz and death from above sp1 b-side category (though i really really like dfa and yes i will fight you over it)

The thing about the Foo's is that even if the songs aren't that great, they're still packed full of stadium rock and roll theatrics... Big drums, big guitars, all of the tricks of the trade utilized. Even though I'm not a big fan of their music, they still put on a top notch live show. They deliver with the best of em... And really, it's not like they don't have a handful of good songs.

I've noticed a backlash surrounding the group lately... People saying they're shit and all of this which is obviously bullocks.

I haven't even listened to the last 3 albums... Don't really care to as they're not my cup of tea... They're simply a "hits" band. Even I don't really care for a lot of their more current hits, but Saint Cecillia was a good song.

This is close to what I'd wager most SP fans would rank the catalog except for RadioGaGa, which I'd think most ppl would give a 2 or lower.

I dunno, It's definitely got higher highs, but I find most of that happy go lucky hippie crap pretty nauseating. It's basically some of his worst work aside from Jesus I/Mary Star Of The Sea, Desire, Honestly and maybe Declarations of truth. I stumbled across that "Lyric" music video the other day and really had forgot how terrible it is.

yeah i don't really like the first 4 tracks but i really like ji/mary star, desire, ENDLESS SUMMER, ride a black swan, and yeah! (despite the title)

and i'm not the biggest fan of el sol or come with me but they are better than mtae songs for sure
