pearl jam in a way exudes poserdom to me. they fired dave abbruzzese for, basically, not being punk rock enough when stone gossard is the son of a lawyer and they all roll around in multiple giant tour buses. oh but they're biodiesel so that makes it ok.

i will also say that eddie can pen some catchy hooks. that backspacer song was good even though it has that same sound that they've had since vitalogy with the exception of binaural.

also sometimes relationships don't work out. the guy wasn't really down with them as much as they weren't down with him. as far as I know they are not feuding or taking pot shots at each other on the internet like how someone would treat ex bandmates if they were actually a douche

i tended to make that same observation about all those bands. on the continuum between GnR and Husker Du, pearl jam, in retrospect is like, right there next to gnr. but a coupla of the dudes in my old band are a decade older than me, and explained that hearing that stuff on the radio was like an awakening. which makes sense because consider the endless cavalcade of glam vomit that dominated the airwaves immediately prior to that.

Dave was a different egg for sure. There were a lot of things, personality wise, where I didn't see eye to eye with him. He was more comfortable being a rock star than the rest of us. Partying, girls, cars.

I think a lot of their songs sound like marginally rockier versions of Chariots of Fire.

ever notice how before anyone starts singing in a christian rock song, it's immediately identifiable as christian rock

Guitarist Stone Gossard said, "It was the nature of how the politics worked in our band: It was up to me to say, 'Hey, we tried, it's not working; time to move on.' On a superficial level, it was a political struggle: For whatever reason his ability to communicate with Ed and Jeff was very stifled. I certainly don't think it was all Dave Abbruzzese's fault that it was stifled." Abbruzzese stated, "I didn't really agree with what was going on. I didn't agree with the Ticketmaster stuff at all. But I don't blame anyone or harbor any hard feelings. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't furious and hurt for a long time. But now I just wish there was more music from the band I was a part of."
in context. like I said, he wasn't cool with what the band was doing either. there were personality conflicts, and obviously that is a big deal in band. you think everyone who has ever fired a bandmate because they didn't fit the band is a dick?
