This pretty much sums it up. Expectations were really, really high because it's the first time 3 of the original 4 members have been together in 20 years.

And all they did was salvage a handful of DFN songs, pen a couple of new ones, spent a week or two hashing them out and threw them out to kind of test the waters. Nothing ambitious.

To their credit I'd say that having James and Jimmy present helps the album quite a bit; imaging what Travels, Solara or Alienation would have sounded like if they weren't present is frightening.

I feel like even Bill fell prey to assuming all the magic would come back just because they were all in a room together again. It's there somewhere, but they need to dig deeper to get it out.

It's almost as if they need to be a "band" ...like D'arcy said

Right now they're 3 rich dad rockers who get together to milk their legacy.

First of all, lots of bands stay together, that doesn't stop their music from becoming devoid of passion when they become "dad rockers". I can only think of a small bumber of bands that retained popularity into their middle age, and an even smaller number that continued to make interesting music.

Legacy milking is what every band does. Collecting royalties is legacy milking by definition, not to mention greatest hits albums and nostalgia concert tours. Suppose you think you're better than all that and you only listen to new music on Spotify, the real question is what established artists are the new artists stylistically milking?, because that's the name of the game, find a musical teat and go at it.

I agree with the dfn leftovers.
I dont hear any magic nowhere.
Jim and james arent contributing. We know that jim played drums ( but where are his strengths? This roll- out in solara? Come on).
We dont knowhow much jamesplayed on the album.
Probably bolzi deleted his tracks and played all by himself- as usual.

Where is the magic? The magical guitar interplay? The magical lyrics? The magical loud/quietparts?

I like some shiny songs but to really have an impact on todays music landscape they must improve and change to a different producer and sound

LOL, how did the "You think you're better than Jack Bates?" thing start?

Also, since you switched your avvy, I always meant to ask you, was your old avatar Gavin Rossdale's face on Mega Man's body or something? lol

it was part of the B'arcy/D'arcy conversation when D'arcy had the audacity to suggest she could fill the touring shoes of Master Jack Bates

D'arcy wishes she had this much stage presence.
