i said this before but i had real issues with machina 1 at first because it sounded overproduced but M2's unfinished state production wise is way worse. There's only like 3 songs i like on M2 and they're definitely not served by the shitty sound. M1 over M2 any day.

I'd also take M1. There are only 3 songs on it I'm not that fond of.

M1 is more 80s influences (sorta, depends the songs) and less big riffs. the latter which M2 has. is it any wonder i prefer m1. It's catchier. Mind you i still dont like nearly half of m1.

m2 songs i like, real love, slow dawn and..... some other i forget right now. I know there's another one though.

lucky 13- big riff
glass - big riff
cash car star - big riff
dross - big riff
blue skies electric - big riff
white spyder - big riff

granted the other songs are fairly 80s inspired too. well..at least 3 of the off the top of my head.

on m1 what is there...everlasting and heavy metal machine that really qualify as big riffs.

i was wrong too the songs i liked on m2 are real love, home, innosense and i guess let me give the world. slow dawn is ok i guess but not really a fav.

I don't think there's any point in seperating M1 and M2 anymore, I go in listening to MACHINA as a whole piece as it was intended by Billy.

I just want the reissue to come out so I can hear all the tracks remastered and resequenced in the originally visioned double album format.

A big deal is made of the underproduction of MII, but I'm just as interested in seeing what MI will be like without Phil Spector blowing his nose all over it.

Lo-fi is just turning up and playing with what you have, cheap and low quality production.

That's the diffference as I understand it. There's a balance and M2 tips to the point where it no longer compliments the mood of the music and just obscures songs that would sound better with mainstream MCIS-style production. On songs like Real Love it doesn't service the song at all.
Remember that M2 is all literally rough mixes they had laying around. None of that even got a proper final mix.

The production style in those 'rough' mixes works for the the songs. I particularly like that songs like 'real love' are a wash of noise in your face.

Doing them with mainstream MCIS-style production would have been a step back and boring.

Probably just because that's what you've gotten accustomed to over the last 15 years of hearing them like that.

i'll add a ding to it.

i checked out m2 again last night cause i hadn't listened to this in well....over ten years. yeah you have to be a troo fan to make it through most of this. And i'm not even some nerd who is overly anal about production or requires his mp3's be 320kps or anything but the sound on some of these is just too bad to be enjoyable. A few songs sound alright though, like they didn't need that much more tampering with.

I think Go sounds ok mix wise. Most of the rest of them really do need a new mix, some of them a complete overhaul.

White Spyder in particular. From my first listen, it bothered me with just how blown-out it was. Been hoping it would be cleaned up some day ever since.

i don't think that two albums that both have their different mixing/production issues will be much better when mixed by ser william corgan, second of his name in >2015.

i would still like to hear it though

White Spyder is awesome. Just surreal sounding. Best song from Machina 2. That song makes me think Corgan might be a genius.

that doesn't explain that I liked the way it sounded 15 years ago when it first came out. and it doesn't explain that I like other music that also sounds blown out oversaturated drowned in reverb&fuzz.

Ill never understand why OLP weren't bigger in the states. They had everything that was great about SP but without all the theatrical melodramatic bullshit.
