Tulsa Brady Theater 06-19-2015
Did anybody tape this show? I have seen videos on youtube but I'd like a copy that I can play on my MP3 player.

Yes, he was in the best mood I've ever seen. Thanked them both non-ironically by name for their commitment to the band in the very early years. I've definitely never heard that before.

Which Tulsa setlist is right? Archive.org has As Time Draws Near as the fourth song while setlist.fm has My Poor Troubled Heart. Archive has Follow Me as the tenth song while setlist has Prairie Song. I had never heard these songs until the show so I have no idea which is correct if either of them is.

My review of the Tulsa show:
I arrived at the Brady Theater around 8:30ish. I had to drive around 15 minutes looking for a parking spot. My seat was on the left side of the stage, maybe 6 rows back. Not bad at all. When I got into the venue, an opening band was playing. I believe the singer said they were from South Korea. They played their last song and there was the customary between bands break. I was under the impression that the Korean band was the opener and another band was playing so when the lights went off I was surprised to see Billy walking across the stage. He was wearing a brownish/maroonish three piece suit. The tour is called the "Plainsong" tour and is described as "an acoustic-electro evening" so I had absolutely no idea what to expect. He sat down at the piano and started playing. He then started playing the chords for "Tonight, Tonight" and played the song on piano and vocals. He played a bunch of songs that I had never heard before. After a couple of songs, Jeff Schroder came on stage and played some songs with Billy. At one point, this really hot girl came out and played bass for one song. I don't know if she's an official member of the band or not. Between songs towards the beginning of the show, Billy said "This show is not for the faint of heart. It lasts 2 1/2 hours...if I feel like it." He mentioned that he has a reputation for being an asshole. Later in the show, he said "I'd like to tell you that I'm not worthy but I am...just not tonight." They played many classic Pumpkins songs including Tonight, Tonight, 1979, Today, Ava Adore (they have played this song at all 3 Pumpkins shows that I've been to), Perfect, a version of To Sheila with electronic beats, For Martha, Dorian and the aforementioned songs that I had never heard. He announced that he was going to play a suite of songs from Adore and played some album tracks and other songs from the era like Jersey Shore. Mayonaise got the biggest pop out of all the songs. He said "You can't throw a rock in Tulsa without hitting a bar, which means you guys like to have a good time." The audience was mostly quiet throughout the show. Between songs some of the crowd yelled "Billy!" so I yelled "William!" I know he had to have heard me because the crowd was quiet and respectful for the most part. From where I was sitting it was much quieter than it sounds like on the recording. When Jeff left the stage between songs, I yelled "Shredder!" At one point, Billy lit what appeared to be a joint and sat it down next to the piano, but I didn't see him hit it and I didn't smell weed so it must have been something else. On some of the songs, Billy didn't play his guitar which was strange, watching Billy walk around the stage with the mic in his hand singing and being a traditional frontman. On one or two songs, Billy played a ukelele and on one song he played bass, including a bass solo. This was a great show and completely different from the other two shows that I have been to. |

I have a nice Schoeps MK41 recording of the Minneapolis show (no VIP) that I am hoping to circulate very soon.

Still waiting to get the recording back after some minor post work is done. I took a while to get it to him so there's that too. I promise to upload it to the LMA and probably also post a torrent on The Traders' Den as soon as I can. It shouldn't be much longer.
Edit: I'll post links as soon as they are available. Last edited by MplsTaper : 08-17-2015 at 11:53 AM. |
