I felt a bit sad when i watched him say this and immediately turn to Jimmy at this question. It still seems like a painful question though i think things have gotten a bit better. I think it's still very painful for Billy especially that he doesn't have communication with his past bandmates. I think he would like to have communication with them and as he has recently said he wishes that the business and music industry experience hadn't gotten in between friends and people (which is the most important part). I believe they will resolve this in due time. I especially hope so for Billy. It's a matter of having a heart to heart.

I miss the Smashing Pumpkins.

It's a shame they no longer exist except in memory.

He didn't really say he was gonna kick anybody out. He was talking about adding people. So I don't think he is planning on giving the new three the boot any time soon.

Yeah, Billy has spoken highly of Jeff to fans in person, and I really don't think he would want to start fresh with a brand new guitarist, at least as long as Jeff is available/interested.

sigh

all this hoopla about band members is retarded. smashing pumpkins has always been a billy corgan/jimmy chamberlain production (with the exception of adore). how many people can honestly say they put in zeigeist and said "boy, i sure can tell james and darcy weren't in the studio" why? because that's how it usually went: billy and jimmy grinded away in the studio, and it when it came time to tour, james and darcy called to duty and did what they do

this is no different, except its with different people. i'm sure one of the new pumpkins will play a part or two in the studio, but mainly they're there for the live shows (not to mention music videos, photo-ops, ect) and if they want to leave or whatever, then another competent musician will take his or her place.

i think people don't really understand the dynamics of the band.

Billy didn't seem like he cared much at all actually.

Even if they didn't end up playing anything in the studio.. i'm sure they contributed something because they weren't scared to tell billy that what hes playing sucks in contrast with the newer members who think that everything that comes forth from his mouth is like the word of god

Exactly...no one understands. The only people who, at this point, know best for Smashing Pumpkins are Billy and Jimmy.

i'm going to step out on a limb and say that no bandmate ever told billy that his "playing sucks"

Billy on "Marquis in Spades"

"The band never really liked this song. They were always snickering at it, but I always liked its sheer brutality. It was recorded live on my 8-track cassette recorder, on which I've done almost all my demos since before Gish." -BC (Guitar World 1/97)

the band did have a say on what went on the records. if it werent for darcy, apples and orangers wouldve never been on adore. and james of course lended a hand in songwriting from time to time (and worked with flood for a lot of machina's atmospheric elements)

other band members will effect the band in one way or another. but just not to the degree a lot of people think

Just keep a lookout on Craig's List for "Help Wanted" listings from BC & JC. Isn't that how they tagged Lisa? I think she'll be around for a while, but I don't think Jeff & Ginger will; either BC & JC will tell 'em "Thanks for your services, we're movin' on without ya now," or Jeff & Ginger will just get sick of workin' with a six-foot-whatever, 40 year old drama queen blabbering about spiritual nonsense.

Oh well, I don't care what the band's makeup is for the future, I'm still standing by for some good music.

If he does continue to change the line up, imagine how hard its going to be for them to come up with set lists. Right now they have a good amount to perform, but starting all over is going to suck.
