Anyway I think the trouble with Billy’s “old voice” is that it’s basically the sound of him having horrible technique and causing permanent damage to his larynx/vocal chords. You can’t really sing like that for long periods of time. Hence his voice always being blown out halfway through tours, etc.

There are some advanced techniques that really skilled vocalists use to get that sound without hurting themselves but...well, Billy is not a really skilled vocalist.
