Default Is thinking MCIS > SD only a late-teen phase?

I'm in my mid 20s and I still think its marginally better. Especially when paired with TAFH. Of course SD is still the ultimate candy-fuzz experience.

Needing to pick a definitive favorite or label something definitively better than something else is a late-teen phase in general.

I think they are honestly pretty close and it kind of depends what values are most important to you. SD is one of the most "perfect" albums I can think of. MCIS is far from perfect but it's bolder and pushes the band to its extremes

MCIS has better individual songs, but SD is a better, more listenable album overall

SD is more refined, but if I was forced to pick one for a desert island I'd go with the extremes from MCIS

MCIS is still my favorite, but now I find it really hard to tell a friend they have to listen to it. I wouldn't change it because the album feels like a journey, but some of the heavier songs in particular are really cringeworthy unless you are able to contextualize them. As much as I appreciate the songs, it's really hard to go from Jellybelly to BWBW so early in the album.

I think I was more reflecting openly on the fact that I've heard a lot of people say MCIS is only a "phase-album", filled with particular teen angst and such.

Except lots of people because it was always a Gen-X album. I've talked to some fans on occasions about it for the past 15 years.

I prefer SD but I think it's locked into the world of 1993 - MTV, grunge, alternative rock.

MCIS has transcended it's era more - 1979 or Tonight Tonight could be played now on the radio and not necessarily evoke an era.

Siamese Dream is a far superior album, it’s not even really a discussion. It’s more coherent, tight, and shit, even has more of a concept than MCIS.

people forget that quiet sweet sweet and spaceboy are kind of bland and boring.

The more metal side of MCIS has really had me intrigued lately. There's some truly badass riffle all over that record.

But seriously the songs after XYU are kind of an EP on it's own and that's what makes MCIS special.. it's like a collection of mini albums.. better presented via the triple vinyl IMO

Yeah I have it in that sequencing in iTunes. Having Infinite Sadness on the end is super cool; I read somewhere that it's meant to be like the music after a play when everyone comes out and bows

I love the metal stuff live when it's sped up a ton and Billy's screaming demonically. Sounds really bland on the record in comparison

funny you say that.. I've never read that but have always got that vibe from that song and where it's placed on the record.

My kinda "gut feeling" is that SD is a 10/10 album and MCIS is a bloated teen angst bullshit record. That's the narrative.... but in reality I think it's the opposite.

MCIS has BWBW, which really is a terrible terrible song that sounds good to teenagers. Everything else on it is good to excellent. It's a real Real album, a lotta divorce stuff and all that.

SD has Today and Disarm which I'd happily never hear again. The production, which I used to love, sounds painfully 90s.
