I've also heard that married men live longer than single men...but that single women live longer than married women.

So I think you are part of a large group of women who feel the same way - they ran the numbers, and the marriage wasn't worth it.

I have threatened to walk out many times...I think the first 10 years of raising kids together is the hardest. It feels easier now, and the idea of us driving a sensible toyota corolla to watch our kids play cricket on a saturday morning, and saving up for our retirement together, and going to Friday evening organ recitals at the cathedral because they're free and the kids are old enough to stay at home by themselves...it all seems less depressing now, than it did five years ago. It was hard to look forward to anything, then - everything was so hard, and we were constantly fighting.

I can't imagine navigating my way through a blended family situation, and I'm very grateful I don't have to do that, at the moment. I have a few friends who five years back, were 'happily' married and who are now divorced and living with partners and dealing with step child/step parent dynamics. It sounds hard.

But you are an only child, and so is your daughter. So even if you do nothing, you'll inherit your parents estate when they die, and she'll inherit it from you. You're not a maiden in that sense...more like an heiress :P

ol muggins here is one of three children and has two kids to think about. If I don't save for my retirement, my kids will have to pay for me. That is a terrifying and shitty thought. I'd sacrifice just about anything, including being alive, to spare them that burden.

I dunno, there are all those shitty neoliberal policies that boomers voted for after they ended their hippy phase, reregulating everything and cutting social safety nets and all that shit. And now the economy sucks and it can measurably be traced to the policies of that era.

I dunno specifically about the political impact of Generation X, but anecdotally, people from this generation seem to be more narrow-minded and dull than people even older than them. I have no idea why, you'd think pogoing to all that '90s anti-commercialism alt-rock is supposed to make one all woke and shit, but yet…

I'm just generalizing for shits mostly, because I think that arbitrarily splitting people who are continuously being born every day into "generations" and assigning them personality traits based on those groupings amounts to something maybe marginally more reliable than astrology. But it's fun to stereotype people.

Funny how the older generations chastise the younger generations as if they weren't literally responsible for raising them. "How come you didn't do a better job of being raised, idiots!"

Sorry i dont understand the complaint of this thread

Something about the childless youngins don’t have enough pain, or something? And you don’t like it when they vape? Did you spend too much time on the internet and transfer your frustration at an entire demographic somehow

so far I've always disliked most people, but especially those 5-10 years younger than me.

I wonder if I'll hate 30 somethings in ten years

It is time for Gen X and Gen Y to join forces in destroying the Baby Boomers. We must not tolerate all of this petty infighting.

Happy Birthday Funbags!

Lol, reminds me of my parents.

>Destroy any possibility of me developing healthy self-esteem by being overly critical of my every action, screaming at and hitting me for the most trifling mistakes
>prohibit any expression of emotion by punishing me more if I cried, became upset, or let even the mildest expression of discontent show in my facial expressions
>Hold me to perfectionist standards and make their acceptance of me conditional on my conforming to them
>Be prone to unpredictable bouts of anger, causing me to always be on guard and always be walking on eggshells

>WHY CAN'T YOU OPEN UP MORE TO US AND BE ASSERTIVE

Every. Damn. Time.
