Saw the new Pet Sematary. It was decent. Doesn't do anything better than the original film did, but the third act deviations were appreciated. Less appreciated was the limp-wristed Ramones cover at the end. 6/10

yeah i kinda felt similarly, & i wasn't even that huge on the original. trailer made it seem like it was actually gonna be an improvement but, yeah... nah

It's a documentary about a cult with a rock band in the '70s, and none other than Fitzwilliam Corgan turns up as a talking head to spout absolute gibberish for about 30 seconds before disappearing forever

One of the former cult members was an executive producer on it, so it's like 90% pretty favorable toward the whole, y'know, cult, but it's still a pretty interesting story

idk how much the documentary went into ricky rodriguez (he was the child abused in the newsletters and such), but here's his pre-suicide video. he plans to kill his mom and himself but ends up only being able to find someone else who was a top player who abused him. he kills her and them himself. no death/violence in the video

Not at all; it didn't give the impression anyone was particularly harmed by the cult (except for one spurned wife) and didn't talk to any unhappy former members; everyone they talked to looked back with reverence

So what I'm finding out here is that this documentary is significantly more biased than I even suspected

I should clarify about people getting hurt: the cult did have a pretty shitty attitude about women and the leader bedded/spiritually married girls who were definitely underage, and also you had to get permission from the leader to have access to any kind of medical care

But this is, like… not presented as being all that bad? Even members who left before the group dissipated are like "I don't know if I would do it again necessarily, but I also don't regret it"

Avengers: Probably Not the Endgame but hey, let's Pretend it's the End of an Era or Something, Because it Actually Kind of is and also Marvel Studios has Delusions of Grandeur

Like Return of the King or Deathy Hallows or Star Wars, if you don't already care about this genre of movie or its characters, this movie won't change that. Like every other Marvel movie, there is more CGI and more MacGuffins than plot.

Blah, blah, blah. It was good. You wanna hate on the genre, hate on the genre, cos I'm not going to. STFU and go watch your so-called high art films or some boring, pretentious, stodgy Oscar-bait drama (on that note, Little Woods, which opened this week, looks pretty interesting, and it even stars Tessa Thompson). Kudos to 10+ years of Marvel cranking out these movies without any of them completely and utterly sucking balls (except maybe Thor: The Dark World).

I laughed, I cried, I cheered, I rolled my eyes at how utterly loony the plot was, and in the end, I left totally satisfied.

I haven't seen it yet, but honestly, I don't know why Hollywood immediately goes to live-action for superhero films when there's so much potential in animation. Well, I mean, I do know why: live action consistently makes more money than animation. But like, I mean, they should really do more as cartoons.

In fact, I always thought Captain Marvel (the Billy Batson version who tells "Shazam!") would work great as an animated film. Though the live-action version we got looks like it's still okay.

Well, where my mind goes is why did they even bother trying to reboot the Spider-Man film franchise with Garfield and the same old story when they could've made a really great Miles Morales story instead. Live action or otherwise...

But at least Sony got something right for the first time in a long while.
