there is such a thing as respecting musicianship without feeling a strong connection or appeal of the particular style of music.

well people say he is a good piano player so that's cool, but he still sounds like he's imitating Elton John to me, and his songwriting is so obnoxious. I had to leave the room when he came on

No, they both were pretty much around the same time. Looks like Elton John formed his first band in 1964 in the UK and Billy Joel was a session piano player in 1965 in the US; it's unlikely they even knew each other let alone imitated one another.


Besides they both were imitating Bill Hailey.

It's a great album, with lots of contradicting arrangememnts juxtaposed with piano-based 70s rock.

I wanted to post The Ballad of Billy The Kid, but I know rbg would just poop on it because it admitedly has a high cheese-factor. But it's still a great song.
