weren't the reel time sessions always from a DAT source?

if i remember it correctly, some fans put a load of cash together and bought those recordings from someone at the studio or at the label or something. this was a long time ago, so i don't really know. but that's what my memory tells me.

this is how it was always shared, as far as i know:
Quote:
CD 1 :
01) Egg
02) Bury Me
03) Bye June
04) Cinamon Girl (Neil Young)
05) C'mon
06) Daughter
07) Daughter (extended)
08) Daydream
09) East (alt)
10) Honey Spider
11) Honey Spider
12) Honey Spider
13) I am One
14) Love
15) Not Worth Asking
16) Psychodelic
17) Rhinoceros
18) Rhinoceros (organ)
19) Snap

CD 2:
01) Stars Fall In
02) With You
03) Waiting for you Now
04) Fat Man Blues (abandoned) - Fat Man Blues (tease) - Fat Man Blues (1st half)
05) Fat Man Blues (2nd half) - Bleed (tease)
06) Bleed (2 false starts) - Bleed
07) She (2 false starts) - She (abandoned) - Vanilla (multiple teases)
08) Vanilla
09) My Dahlia (2 teases) - My Dahlia (abandoned) - My Dahlia (abandoned) - (jam tease) - Fat Man Blues (tease)
10) Waiting
11) Sun (abandoned w/teases) - Fat Man Blues (tease) - Stray Cat Blues (multiple teases)
12) Stray Cat Blues
13) I am One Pt.2

Note :
Cd 1 tracks 01 to 19 : electric sessions
Cd 2 tracks 01 to 02 : electric sessions

Cd 2 tracks 03 to 13 : acoustic sessions

I understand that we're sticking to demo material here so stop me if this mucks up the thread. I obtained digital copies of the collection listed here for gratis. EAC (secure mode) rips with artwork/disc scans included. Many of these are already available on the LMA or otherwise heavily circulated. I'd have to do some serious digging to see what I still have available from the old Hub but I also highly doubt anything pressed on these CDs is an upgrade from what CAIC has already provided. With that said, if anyone would like something from the linked list let me know and I'll post or PM a link.

Anyone have lossless Sequence IV? The only thing I could find was a VBR ~190 kbps .mp3

i have sequence 4 lossless, but it was discussed in this thread that the version out there is worthless. which is why i didn't share it initially.

dunno. i guess the odds of finding anything better are rather small?

Even though it's deemed worthless surely it's worth sharing to have it located somewhere in decent quality right? I don't understand their logic. It's not like it's completely unlistenable or anything like some recordings of shows that are around.

the logic is that it isn't decent quality. just because it's flac or shn, doesn't mean it's decent quality.
the tape wasn't very good to begin with, and then several iterations of "cleaning up" happened, which ruined the thing entirely.

but since we don't have anything else, i guess i can share the old files we've found for sequence iv. for most people, this is better than nothing. and it's definitely better than the weird messed up sets of files doing the rounds (clearly from different sources).

if anyone can locate less processed audio of this tape in the mean time, please share.

Thanks Dade!

About the quality, I just want lossless so I don't lose even more quality. It would be very interesting if someone did upload lossless, though.

When did Sequence IV circulate, if anyone knows? If it was around 2000, it may have been BC himself... doubt it, though.

Make sure that you rip it with EAC with a .log and .cue file, as I might want to rip it to a CD. Thanks!

Only issues I might have is ripping this disc as it is very scratched but I'll try a few different drives and do my best!

Btw- CAIC, thanks for the torrent links and such, but unfortunately that experiment has seemingly proven unsuccessful. Nobody is going to commit to seeding this material 24/7, it's just not practical. I agree that we should get all these best sources with no missing tracks all in one place.

I haven't noticed anyone else offer this yet, but I've got 2 rackmounted servers that replicate off each other and would be a perfect place to keep all this stuff in one place. I'm happy to give admin access to the right people, but so far I've already organized most everything I have in a file system by year that contain the sub-folders like, albums, boots, live shows, etc etc.. By the end of this month I'll even have a backup ISP service with load balancing on my firewall, and regular backups running. If anyone wants to help with this please PM me, I have about 90% at least of what used to be on the hub, but I'm sure there's some little things I don't, plus Zwan shows that have fallen out of circulation..

This would be amazing. Would it cost you money to do this for everyone? I'd more be more than happy to donate a little when I can (works kind of died down this time of year so until March i'm low on funds)

I've only got the Adore, MCIS and Machina demos currently so nothing to hard to find, plus i'm sure you'd already have it yourself so personally I don't know how much help I would be with that >.<

As for content, as you said the concerts aren't really needed as they're all on archive.org already plus there's a fuckton of them so it would be a lot of work.

I would recommend all demos, any material that's hard to find/not commercially available anywhere really. As for sources, I disagree with the decision about the Sequence IV tape made in the past. I reckon we should try to upload the best source of everything, even if the best source isn't fantastic. And maybe sources that have a notable enough difference if there are multiple versions of some tapes and stuff? Just rambling right now trying to work out what's ideal and i'll probably add to this every now and then

Premasters? I know about the Machina one for sure which I have in WAV or FLAC somewhere. Do anymore exist? I've read about a Zwan one?

Bside tracks are a good option too since you can't buy them legitly except from iTunes which isn't exactly good quality. The version of Speed Kills I got from there sounds horrible so I'm thankful to whoever uploaded a lossless copy of it a while back

sequence 4: magnet:?xt=urn:btih:163490A9CB16A9F8...=Sequence%20IV

it's this one:
Quote:
The Smashing Pumpkins
"Sequence IV" 31 May 1995
ANA-? > DAT > CDR-? > WAV [EAC] > WAV [WaveLab, FreeFilter] > SHN
http://www.spfc.org/band/studio.html?session_id=26

Known flaws: "twinkling" / crappy treble
dropout in Muzzle at 1:04
pops in Porcelina

In an attempt to make Sequence IV (a rough mix of MCIS' "Dawn to Dusk")
remotely listenable, I ran each track individually through FreeFilter
against its MCIS counterpart. It sounds a hell of a lot better, but it
didn't fix the clipping or the annoying 'twinkling' that probably
resulted from injudicious noise reduction.

I adjusted the preamp (I assume it was pre?) before applying the filter
in order to prevent clipping from the EQ process. I also adjusted the
volumes afterwards in an attempt to maintain the relative loudness of
each track on the disc. Some of the tracks seem a little bass-y, but
what the hell.

With that out of the way, I think this is an interesting listen. Several
of the tracks are nearly finished, but quite of the few tracks are
noticeably different. In general, some subtle instrumentation on the
final mix is more noticeable, and several of the instrumental takes are
slightly different.

::shrug:: Love it or leave it... hope I didn't screw anything up.

That's OK. If it's alright, can you upload the tracks that did rip? That would be cool.

Also, did any of the drives have C2 error correction? That really speeds up rip time.

EDIT: Sorry, no clue what that demo was. It does sound pretty nice for an .mp3, though. Any chance you can rip anything off of your CD-Rs? We should make a separate thread just for your CD-R collection. But in .flac, of course.

Thanks for trying at least - were any fragments from the failed rips listenable? Just so you could hear if it was substantially different from the one CAIC uploaded (which is the best i've heard so far)?

Thanks, if it doesn't work or becomes too much effort don't worry about it. If we can salvage a few tracks for comparison purposes and potentially get better versions of some songs, cool - if not we have CAIC's one which according to you sounds not too far off

i believe it's a fanmade track. was passed off as "feelium" for a long time.

you seem to have a funny edit of it though, with the 666 audio added to it.
it also sounds a bit different to what i remember. i will compare.

does anyone have "original" shn files for previeu and annona (as in, how they were shared on the hub back in the day)? thanks.
these are compilations containing the demo tapes tsp and moon, and then some.

according to d4:
Quote:
Previeu and Annona were both made from my demo tapes, the difference is that Annona had some really crappy hiss reduction applied to it.

The TSP tape was sold to Adam Gordon in 1998.

The Moon tape was sold to Sven Schlijper in 2001.

FWIW: The spoken word tracks were left off [of Previeu; caic] because Josh Sherman asked Khadejah to remove them; they "annoyed" him and in his mind they were already available on Sound of Turnips. (Sherman is the one who physically delivered my demo tapes to Khadejah, the person who actually made Previeu.)
