Follow up question would be

do you like Dorian?

Another follow-up would be

do you like Adore?

Dorian is terrible, half of Adore is ok. That album hasn't aged well for me.

All I hear anymore when I listen to anything Billy has done except some of the earlier stuff is a wall of whiny sound that cries: “EVERYONE LOOK HOW SPECIAL I AM...WAHHHHH!!!!!!!”

So, no.

Cyr is alright, I dig the updated Future Embrace sound. I wish it had better singing, but it helps to have the additional vocals. I also find it lacking dynamics. I dig the video.

I don't like Colour of Love, and listening to both tracks in succession is tiresome.

Cyr & Color of Love are practically the same to me, both are produced the same fuckin' way & essentially have the same arrangement. they're not altogether terrible just have some elements I could do without to the point of not even really wanting to listen to either, full stop

i do like Dorian, a song where the "don't you like new wave?" argument might actually work

i love Adore

Adore is my favourite album. Dorian sounds like a waste of what could be a good song, that is even more frustrating. Colour of your Love is ok, a bit repetitive. CYR is probably my favourite single by Billy since Machina.

You bring up a really good point regarding dynamic - something like Daphne Descends has the same vibe as songs like Cyr, Dorian or maybe For God and Country, but is way more dynamic and textured. I suppose 1979 falls on this spectrum as well, obviously at the good end.

This is kind of the problem with all of his new stuff since Monuments - not dynamic at all. At best we get a solid riff or two that just repeat for 3-4 minutes. Doesn't matter if its guitar- or synth-based. One and All, Tiberius, Silvery Sometimes - very basic structure, very repetitive.

Cyr is probably closest to something like Mina Loy. Repetitive, synth-based (mostly), but solid beat. Unlike something like Try Try Try that just goes on waaay too long.

As far as Billy electronica goes, this is in the good pile, including pre-2000 stuff.

Does it touch something like Soma or Porcelina in terms of dynamics or being particularly interesting or awe-inspiring? Nothing from Billy ever will.

Do you mean Dorian is a waste because it doesn't really go anywhere after the first 20 seconds? See I really love that 20 seconds, but that's all the song is. Like if he threw some more riffs in there it would be at Cyr level or Mina Loy level IMO. Which itself is a moderately low bar compared to the rest of his work but yeah.

"Having some elements I could do without" is what plagues all 2007-onward SP music. Nothing ever quite reaches that prior plateau, and there's frequently something goofy that ruins the whole thing.

I fear that the whole album is produced this way. Lots and lots of sterile synths...with lyrics we cant connect.....
Col is a mediocre song that would equally fit on mtae.
But, i have no desire to listen to the 2 songs on repeat. The last time a sp song was on heavy rotation was when they released untitled....

There is no variety in the songs.... ah...yeah the sucking bridge with a typically post 2000 corgan melody(which sux) in cyr.

So they bought 1 mio clicks on youtube? Man, thats like doping in sports....

I hope i am wrong and hope that the rest of the songs do not follow these arrangements and instrumentation but i say one thing: i bet that we will hear a song in the likes of run2me but much worse. Fuck mr

Yes, like Cyr and Colour Of Love

I like everything about Dorian except the lyrics.

I LOVE Adore. For over a decade Mellon Collie was my favourite. But lately I've been torn between SD and Adore as my all-time favourite.

Well I guess this is growing up..

I honestly think I would rather listen to GLOW and Feelalol than these songs.

Edit: the chorus or post-chorus or whatever of Feelalol ("What I've sung I split in half, Now it's always...") is one of the best things he's done since 2000.

Okay GLOW is not good other than having Jimmy and the guitar riff.

I did listen to Ma Belle for the first time in years, what a great track. 13 years ago.

Maybe I should stop blaming Billy for trying new stuff, it's been 20 years since Machina, god.
