Stop whatever bullshit you're doing, you filthy fucks, and watch this:
Yes you've seen it before, but that's no excuse not to see it again.

It looks like D'arcy was sorting out some technical difficulties with her gear with the stage crew during that...she doesn't have her bass during most of it. I wonder if it was just an impromptu little jam they just did while she got her rig fixed.

The tone of Billy's guitar sounds awesome in Thru the Eyes of Ruby on that Phoenix show.
Also during the outro of Porcelina, I love that bit but Billy's guitar usually sounds weird in live versions of it. It sounds awesome there. |

that's a sweet at that phoenix show. The pumpkins really could put together just an unreal live show. Even with pumpkins 3.0.

Nice bit around 1:03:17 when Porcelina has kicked in, where Billy is smiling at James and clearly digging James' guitar work, playing off of him.
Matt was totally legit...there are plenty of times where it's clear there's no comparison to Jimmy, *BUT* there's never a time where he sounds like "Ehh, good enough", unlike Mike Byrne, who seems to just resort to brute force whenever he doesn't know what else to do. I really enjoy listening to how Matt paid careful attention to little key Jimmy parts that are essential to the songs...little high hat accents and important fills. It's obvious Matt studied his ass off to learn these songs and was very detail oriented. Byrne sounds like he's just kind of skimmed over the songs and recycles the same dumb uncreative fills repeatedly. Jimmy is absent in this video, but it still feels like SP because Matt did his homework. Mike Byrne hasn't picked up on JC's subtleties...he has a generic, generalized idea about it, and that's all. Matt isn't even as flashy, but he grasped the feel of The Smashing Pumpkins soooo much better. Throwing in La Dolly Vita at the end of Porcelina was great. Love when they'd do stuff like that. |

Yeah, that is awesome. It was nice that they brought back the old extended "Hindu" intro to Siva in the 2008 shows: |

That is great. I still believe the Adore tour provided the best performances in SP's history. Atmosphere played a huge part in it and the venues were so fitting.

Yeah, those were some truly unique venues for hosting rock concerts. Very up-market and sophisticated. And on a related note, did the Pumpkins ever get much notice from the NPR crowd? They came closest during the Adore era (Bill was on Tom Snyder) but still no love from Fresh Air...

I keep looking for that one too - it's not even featured on the 25 years Bridge School Benefit edition.
