I don't get Netphoria's hate for this song. The video's alright too. Respectable.

And better than anything on TFE.

The song is just generic, like basically every song on that album. The video is ok to be honest.

It sounds like coldplay pop/rock.

Coldplay sounds better than that tbh

It wouldn't be controversial to say that their output has been fairly solid since 2000.

Being Beige is such a bland, uninspired, generic song... it sounds like Billy barely trying. Cruise control music. Comparing Monuments To An Elegy and The Future Embrace is like comparing two homeless men's piles of shit and asking which smells nicer.

pretty sure this is the best we can get from billy these days. it's actually not bad, you're right. i could actually see this being some kind of small hit like 15 years ago (with a few changes... gotta get to the chorus sooner for sure). the pre chorus and chorus are good and catchy enough for it

Hasn't that been the narrative he's been pushing since 2007? With Zeitgeist it was "We were just trying to find our feet with the Smashing Pumpkins thing again", then with Teargarden it was "I'm just trying to get in touch with my artistry again". Monuments was something like "we're just going with our A material and not worrying about the music having a theme".

It's just one excuse over and over again.

The song is not all that bad but I hate the outro chorus with all of the listing of the days. It also doesn’t help that it came out at the height of his assholeness. The song just felt so false when it dropped. It was hard to square the positive radio tone with his attacks on porn music vids, etc

Reprise is right. It just sounded dated. If it came out like 10-15 years before when Coldplay was huge then it might have been more relevant. In 2014 it just sounded like he was aping a sound that was already yesterdays news.

Never has there been a more appropriate title than Being Beige! Fits in the same category as Knights Of Malta... I really think Billy is at his worst when he tries to get on the radio these days, it's such horribly cynical music

That’s because Monuments and Shiny were the first completely unmemorable Pumpkins albums ever.

Think about it. Even Zeitgeist, which is Billy at his absolute fucking worst, was memorable. I don’t mean that in a good way, but when you think of Z, you immediately think of Billy choir, metallic production, “yah shud waaaaaaant it aaaahhhll” etc

When you think of Teargarden and Oceania you think of the weird hippy vibe and toybox synths

When you think of Monuments and Shiny, you think of...um...?

It’s just not memorable. Nothing about it is distinctive. It’s just Billy in autopilot, making lukewarm, average tracks. Other than Run2Me and Anti-Hero, nothing on the last two is fucking bad. But they’re all just kind of there, unmemorable and blah, just like Billy’s vibe about the band nowadays

I still don't get the hate for Anti-Hero. Yes, the opening verse is laughably terrible, but after that it kicks in pretty nicely and is a pretty good track.

Billy's gotta family and shit now. Still seems weird. I always figured that the old bastard would die alone.

I take this back... Just read the part in the book where Rubin tried to take control of the group and screwed them outta a ton of money.

I always thought Rubin was involved with Paul's Boutique as well, turns out not.

Oh so you mean he was only involved with their worst, most dated album? Score!

God Rick Rubin blows ass

He was a crucial part in discovering and getting the band famous. Can't take that away from him. And nothing beats No Sleep Till Brooklyn which was largely a Rick Rubin creation
