Purple Blood is fantastic. I'm serious. It sounds so much like an Adore era track.

I dig Purple Blood, but I wish it went somewhere in the second half of the song. I do like the stripped-down outro but the backing vocals are far too loud in the mix.

i'm realizing these songs are an attempt at expanding on how the beginning is the end is the beginning was a later hit for SP.

but Purple Blood is the kind go electro goth jam i was hoping to hear. vocals are way better on this, not over singing.. at least compared to a lot of the first disc.

i think i like dulcet in E the best of the first disc, yet is still have the same criticism of too much singing/vocals going on. but i'm liking the guitar tracking and vibe on this.

It's either this batch or Confessions / Wrath that made the best one two punch. Agreed that Anno Satana / Birch Grove was the worst, both songs sit at the bottom of the bunch.

Honestly, if the second half of this thing is just a bit more spirited than this half on average, I think Cyr isn't really going to be that bad of an album.

Eh not really feeling these either. This album is just Cotillions with synths. Overly long with little to no hooks and not many memorable tracks. Wrath is the only one I really like. 2/5 stars for the album, none of the other tracks will change that either.

if purple blood is more indicative of what the second half will sound like, i'm more optimistic. half 1 is very hit or miss.

it says there's 8 songs i'll be skipping, 8 i'll listen to.

i'm past the point of expecting that i'll love a new SP front to back. and i'm ok with not like some of the new stuff. shiny 1, i like 4 songs, can't stand the other 4. so if I'm in the mood to listen to it, i have 4 songs i can enjoy. I'm good with that.

Yeah definitely, I’ve been enjoying most of the tracks released so far, sans maybe Anno Satana and Wyttch (instrumental is cool but Billy’s voice is just grating on the track and the vocal melody doesn’t go anywhere) but Purple Blood sounds like the most successful attempt at this gothic synth-pop sound the band (or Billy) is trying to go for. I may be too early to judge since this just came out, but I would say this could’ve been a strong second single.

Purple blood = Ancient Greek "wine dark" as a way of accounting for the absence of a word for blue (1983-4); used to describe the wound of Menelaus as well as the ocean in Homer. This may explain the wounding transition between the heavy wet asphalt dark elements of the song and the acoustic intrusions. Really liking it

both are very middle of the road tracks. They don’t go anywhere. This is like those synthy breaks in some of the Oceania songs except a whole album of it.

the greek word is porphureos which comes from porphura, fish from which purple dye is made. porphureos is used to describe blood stains from human sacrifice in Euripides' Iphigenia among the Taurians which just happens to be the play I am currently reading!
