The Flaming Lips

I loved that band so much from 1998-2010 and now Wayne is a dickbag creepy-uncle and they are fucking awful.

Maybe I should revisit it... I know I hate the singles and I listened to the album once or twice when it was new and then traded it in.

well actually "New" is pretty sweet, but that was released before the album on the Go soundtrack, so I don't even really in clude it in the era.

different core personalities. Kozelek seems like he is kind of an asshole sometimes, but he's also generally humble about his playing and is not attention-seeking like billy.

he just seems like a much more normal person. he's a pretty reserved guy

Hmmm. Well, I love Britney Spears more than I've ever loved SP, and the more personal glimpses of her, the more I feel like she is just a pure, good person. Just love for her, absolutely zero hate.

Now, as far as bands/artists I've enjoyed, but never on a Britney/SP level, here are some examples:

R. Kelly: secret wedding to the underage Aaliyah, statutory rape, claims of keeping a coven of women locked up for sexual slavery
Michael Jackson: pedophile
John Phillips: alleged incest
Bowie: statutory rape
Lindsey Buckingham: beat up Stevie Nicks

I absolutely CANNOT listen to R. Kelly anymore after reading Jim DeRogatis' multiple pieces on him. Dude has belonged in jail forever.

The others mentioned are troubling for me. I acknowledge their misdeeds and it makes their music tougher to listen to nowadays. But I do love a lot of Bowie, Mamas & Papas, MJ and Buckingham-led Fleetwood Mac songs. It's VERY HARD for me to separate the art from the artist with men like Corgan and Kelly (who have a lot of similarities in terms of being 90s Chicago legends with huge egos and prolific songwriting capabilities). But at least with the others, they worked with GREAT collaborators such as Stevie Nicks, Christine McVie, Queen Mama Cass and Quincy Jones.

lesser crimes, but still problematic/had an influence on barely listening to them anymore
Ryan Adams: being a huge asshole
Gwen Stefani: cultural appropriation
U2: I think Bono ultimately has his heart in the right place, but he can be pretty insufferable and sanctimonious.

But then again, my interest in these ones waned over time naturally anyway, so.

There's no evidence that MJ was ever a pedophile. Tons of kids that he spent a ton of time with all emphatically say that nothing illegal went on, as odd as the relationship was.

The parents of 2nd kid who came out with allegations against him in 2005 had a long history of extortion attempts

I believe Bowie over a roadie who has claimed she slept with every rock star ever and her story changes weekly

It was completely out of character for him especially after reading his bio

She just wants to brag she slept with Bowie, and she admits so

lol yeah no.... Do you realize that only 1 percent of Bono's charity goes to boots on the ground initiatives?

"Bono's ONE foundation under fire for giving little over 1% of funds to charity"

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...s-charity.html

all of the money supposedly goes to him for simply "bringing attention to issues" lol. what a crock of horse manure.

I don't care that there's "no proof," I believe where there's smoke, there's fire in MJ's case. He was a zillionaire with all the hush money in the world.

Good for you. Not sure what the amount of men she slept with has to do with anything. I believe women.

There was only 2 kids who made allegations against him and the families were both very sketchy with histories of wrong-doing and there's been a ton of people who've come forward to say nothing ever happened between them... Corey Feldman, McCauly Culkin, Frank Cascio and his little brother (just to name a few that initially pop to mind).

Even Macauley Culkin vouched for him. Culkin could have threw Jackson under the bus for some cheap publicity and sympathy when his own career hit a lull, but he didn't, he maintained that Jackson was a stand up guy.
