Honestly, Monte Era SP was one of the darkest, most chaotic eras.

Two time Grammy winner Billy Corgan hires a Mormon creepyfan to run his online presence while putting on a shitty boat cruise to promote a rinky-dink album that features no original band members.

SP never recovered.

It must have really been a big blow after he switched his entire life around, threw his solo work under the bus and went against his word on the reunion to have it flop. It was pretty much dead after only a dozen or so dates into that come back tour.

Maybe, but it would have also been very different had James and D'arcy been playing those songs.

Absolutely would. I remember reading on online music sites how people were expecting Billy to bring rock back and all this. Zeitgeist just sounded strange and didn't resonate with people. Tarantula was everywhere for a while. I still think he's incredibly dumb for dumping that song.

Obviously Slowdive was never as big as SP but their 2017 sounded exactly like Souvlaki and sold great, plus was ranked as one of the best shoegaze albums ever...

Imagine being a casual SP fan and in the first 2 minutes you hear "the jackals lick their balls"

I still remember back then when I was the only Pumpkins "fan" that I knew, people might have known the band but aside from a few songs didn't really care about them. Those friends and other aquaintances back in 2007 were excited to tell me that they'd heard "that band you like!" on the radio and that they thought the song (Tarantula) was really good.

It got played from 2007 til 2010 and then bam, gone, forgotten, fuck you.

Don't see what Billy really expected when it came to the reunion. Half of the band wasn't there, he continued with the weird stage costumes, was gaunt and looked stiff, and antagonized his audience when no one even could imagine what he was mad at them for. He pretty much tanked it purposefully.
