Hated this album on first listen. I've tried to like it, and I guess the hate has turned to dislike. Still, the only songs I ever find myself wanting to hear are Pinwheels and Oceania. Sometimes I lazily let the rest of the album play after those 2 and it isn't horrible I guess, but nothing I would go out of my way to listen to.

Zeitgeist & friends are great, though.

it's more than 6.

the album is pretty good, just well short of any original SP release. I find it does stand up well to repeated plays. I really disliked the last 4 songs initially but they've grown on me. would jimmy have pushed some of these songs further? maybe so, although of course he did play on the 2 TbK EPs so possibly not. the lyrics are pretty weak in places. actually, I think the band did about as well as could be expected with the songs - the opposite to Zeitgeist, where virtually every one was messed up to some degree.

I thought it was patently known that Mike drummed on TbK.

The last two are the only that are kind of tolerable. I actually kind of like Owata, especially with Jim.

Sailor is okay, sort of, just boring. Kind of like Spaceboy.

Astral Planes is fucking shit. Drums are from a generic soft rock song when it needed Geek USA or something.

gotta be kidding, right!?

Zeitgeist is objectivly waaaaay better than Machina or Gish (or Pisces). Any time, any day.
it is there with Adore, MCIS, and SD.

just listen to the album and stop comparing it. the fact Iha and D'arcy aren't there doesn't make it a bad album.

lol no

zeitgeist is not TERRIBLE but all of those albums have much higher highs. the best parts of Zeitgeist are just like "oh, cool"... compare that shit to something like Hummer or fucking Blank Page or Rhino etc? lol no

and pisces is fucking incredible

kidding? no.

think you're mixing up actual objectivity with your subjective opinion. if you look hard enough you can find some people who rate one album above another, even against a general consensus view. your opinion is right for you, but you cannot expect others to share it. it is highly unlikely you would find many SP fans who share your opinion, even with Machina.

James and D'arcy weren't on Oceania too and imo it was a lot better than Zeitgeist. the songs written for Zeitgeist weren't necessarily bad, it was the way they went about putting them together for the CD. effectively, Billy and the producers sabotaged the album. there's so many things i dislike about it (like i said, every song has something that jars or irritates) that i don't even think a remix would fix it.

People just like Oceania in relation to the awfulness that was Teargarden.

The mixing and production is A LOT better on Oceania than it was on Zeitgeist... But that's about it...

Theres just no substance on Oceania... Nothing I wanna go back and revisit... Corgans lost his touch.
