Default Do you listen to studio tracks or live boots more?

Aside from the dreamlike perfection of SD, I'll always prefer live stuff. Hearing them speed up songs so much is amazing, the banter in between, the different solos and fills, the live energy...

Aside from SD, all their records sound either stale or shitty

I listen to the records a ton more, especially because I prefer watching concerts on video than just listening to them.

And the records only sound shitty from Zeitgeist forward imo (machina 2 has a few weird sounding songs too)

when i was younger i always sought out the boots; however, now I listen to the studio recordings more. Maybe it has to do with finally getting all these old 90s albums on vinyl with the reissues.

I always did appreciate that the pumpkins live versions were often different than the studio or at least had a different vibe to them.

I only started seeking out recordings in the last few years. I've listened to the albums several thousand times more than I have or will anything live, and I tend not to bother unless the audio quality's good.

like 95% studio albums but i know there is so much good live stuff i should probably check out

and yes, machina 2 has some terrible sounding tracks. they'll be fixed on the reissue, though

I was a live guy for several years (took the time to download all of the archive fm, pre-fm, and sbd shows) but have crawled back to albums on the stereo.

75% Studio
25% Live
I listen to an acceptable (I guess) amount of live recordings, but Ive been needing to get into more shows and what not. Recently been getting a lot more off of archive.org so I'm hoping that'll help.

i guess these days about 50/50, since i don't actively put on the albums anymore, and am often seeing live stuff from the "golden era" i'd never heard before

saying most of the studio stuff pre-zeitgeist sounds "stale & shitty" is pretty dumb tho

hardly ever listen to anything in context these days. i tend to land on one specific song and listen to it (and little else) periodically over the course of several weeks. pumpkins examples from recent times include:

-ruby, eurockeennes 97
-in my body, album

dunno if this counts, but i will say thefutureembrace was a recent exception to the "no context" thing, possibly because it has a more cohesive sonic quality overall

the songs are mostly lifeless, but, spurred by a thread here, i got really into listening to the color and texture of the album last month

the aeroplane flies high studio version is another recent example. it was suddenly much more commanding, bloodthirsty, and seductive to me than it had ever been before. no idea why. but it was awesome.
