THE SMASHING PUMPKINS - Lightning Strikes: Songs 2005-2014
1 Panopticon
2 Starz
3 Tom Tom
4 Death From Above
5 The Chimera
6 Stellar
7 Quasar
8 United States
9 Zeitgeist
10 One and All
11 Pinwheels
12 Lightning Strikes
13 Superchrist
14 Oceania
15 Tilt
16 The Fellowship
17 Bring the Light
18 Tiberius
idk, a whole 1.2 hour CD worth of quality SP2 material is sort of a stretch... though I do think Tiberius is genuinely good. And Superchrist is probably as good as the Zeitgeist era/cockrock gets, aside from Bleeding the Orchid which has really goofy production (as does Starz) and I get why you left it off. United States was fucking awesome live and is compressed to hell on the album and is over produced in general... which is a shame because its such a poweful performance from Jim jam. It's too Machina-sounding when it should be raw like M2

The only song from Oceania I've listened to since 2012 is Violet Rays. Mike Byrne is just... boring. It's SP2 lite. And the Tear garden crap is just utterly unlistenable.

Noble effort, but I think it's impossible.

It's a shame there's no studio Gossamer. But that probably would have been ruined anyway.

99 Floors is also pretty decent. And the Rose March. But again, too many Bollys... sigh...

Oh and what about Stellar? MaBelle too, to a lesser degree. Stellar is pretty legit.

1 Tiberius
2 Superchrist
3 less Bolly versions of BTO, Rose March, Starz
4 United States that is properly mastered.
5 Violet Rays
6 Stellar
7 Studio Gossamer which doesn't exist and prob would have gotten destroyed anyway
8 99 Floors

that's it I give up. An EP at best.

Also. His most recent solo album was genuine and emotional, if boring to listen to. A step in the right direction. Can't remember any of it, but he seemed to be in a good place.

I've been enjoying the mix. Will likely add 99 Floors and Inkless to make it an even 20 (and then at least America Gothic is represented by 1 song)

Where is the link?

Also is there a live compilation of all the live songs from this era that didn't make the cut on any albums, or live tracks that are better than the studio release like most of the Teargarden songs?

You’re asking me to share a link to a bunch of commercially released SP songs?

I met Buzz Osborne once
The show it was following was great, even if i’d only heard Houdini and maybe one other album going into it

Go on I'll bite. Some good choices, some not so. Here's my best of the mediocre:

1. That's the Way
2. Starz
3. United States
4. Stellar
5. Sunkissed
5. Tom Tom
6. Panopticon
7. Pinwheels
8. Oceania
9. Pale Horse
10. Glissandra
11. Tiberius
12. One and All

That;s all I can make a serious case for.

I made no attempt to put them in any particular order, but this is my top-of-the-head attempt. And yes, I like Owata and Astral Planes.

1. Tarantula
2. Bring the Light
3. United States
4. Superchrist
5. GLOW
6. Sunkissed
7. Pox
8. Quasar
9. Chimera
10. My Love Is Winter
11. Pale Horse
12. Owata
13. Song For A Song
14. Astral Planes
15. One and All
16. Tiberius
17. Monuments
18. Lightning Strikes
19. Stellar
20. Doomsday Clock

Just like that post-2007 singles compilation, these playlists are entirely unlistenable. One or two, maybe even 3 sp2 songs at once is OK, but 20 in a row. Really? Why do this to yourself?

Remember, you are dealing with ppl who have actually listened to entire SP2 albums. More than once. There is no reasoning with these brutes.

I wouldn't necessarily listen to 20 in a row. But if I was to listen to any of them, it would probably be from that list of 20.

Mine goes something like:

Song For A Son
99 Floors
Tarantula
The Panopticon
As Rome Burns
Glissandra
The Rose March
Tom Tom
Stellar
Neverlost
Ma Belle
No Surrender
Archer

Then you could have Gossamer & Zeitgeist as a bonus EP I guess.

A few people have mentioned it to him on the Q&A and he seems dismissive of it. He's always neglected it in a way; it only shows up on silver ZG, so it wasn't even considered for the various initial versions, and it was never, ever played live.

Hard to have live tracks if you're making a compilation of commercially released tracks. I suppose you could argue that Gossamer and 99 Floors were "released" on If All Goes Wrong.

Absolutely love the opening riff, but the rest of it just meanders on, agreed.
