Default A possible Christmas album?

https://www.spin.com/2018/11/smashin...qzE6915t088pKE

Look, I am a bit of a Billy apologist. I'll give anything he does a go. I really like Shiny. I quite like Monuments. I listen to Oceania quite a lot. I also LOVE Christmas music. Like, I could write you an essay on it. I reviewed all of the Christmas albums out last year for the Observer Christmas Eve issue and it was one of the most fun times I've ever had writing an article.

But this is the worst idea I have ever heard. No-one actually likes Christmastime. No-one. It's a syrupy, horrible vomit of a song that seems to miss all the joy, fun or melancholy desperation that marks the best Christmas songs.

This is an indefensible war crime of an idea.

I want them to cover All I Want for Christmas is You, just to see Billy doing the diva hand and so much vibrato Christina Aguilera would be jealous.

Definitely needs to happen. Would certainly be better than Shiny.

It's funny you mention that no one likes Christmastime.

Literally every Christmas season, I hear that played in the mall or some public place atleast once. Sometimes up to 5 times or more. I once heard it at Walmart and Macy's on the same day.

Other than maybe 1979, it has more public recognition that any other Pumpkins song.

What always gets me about the song, and makes it even worse, is that there’s no way he ever had a Christmas as good as what he’s depicting

Everything we know about his childhood is that it really sucked, so what are the odds, you know?

Maybe he had some okay ones, but this is “empty party afternoons” guy

That actually makes it quite poignant.

So there you go. Christmastime is now a great SP song.

One thing you can say, his voice on Christmastime is great. I'd listen to him sing that 1000 times more with that voice than anything in his recent style.

Damn it, my words have had the opposite effect I intended

It's a bad song, people, it's bad and not good

Also you just know Billy's gonna go overboard giving lil Jupe an explosively large Christmas every year

Kid's gonna get one of those child-size motorized Jeeps that go 5 mph that only the rich kids in your neighborhood had, goddamn

I think I've only listened to Christmastime once. I just don't think Billy's voice and style is suited to Christmas music.

Have Faithe, Be Merrie, also a Christmas song.
Released to SPRC 23rd December 2011.

Quote:
when you wrap your arms 'round christmas
that's when your dreams will all come true
name your star and i'll make mention
that those dreams belong to you
and one day you will come to marry
and we'll stand and watch you proud
we'll think back upon this christmas
and those dreams you spoke about
when you wrap your arms 'round christmas
and the snow is falling right
that's when you'll remember saint nick
and the sleigh he drove all night
he'll bring all your dreams to light
from the north he rides
he's on his way
for every girl and boy
a special toy
a golden joy
we all invite

from the north he rides
he's on his way
for every girl and boy who's not afraid
to hold their dreams in our arms
for a star upon your tree
hang a wreath above the hearth
snuggle up against a warm fire
and let peace reign on this earth
when you wrap your arms 'round christmas
that's when you wrap your arms around me
name a star and we'll sing merry christmas to all your dreams
http://www.spfc.org/songs-releases/s...l?song_id=1238

“As a thank you for supporting the Smashing Pumpkins Record Club (SPRC) this year, Billy went digging in the vaults and found this beautiful holiday song called “Have Faithe, Be Merrie.” We hope you enjoy it!
