Default How come SP never had a live album?

Sure they released a few live tracks here and there, and the deluxe reissues have live tracks, but during their prime they never released a legit live album. Did they ever discuss it? I bet it was because Bolly's live voice was so bad.

Because marketing? Brolly never OK’d one?

Also, I think live albums are (or were, at least) more of a gamble for labels to make money after initial costs like CDs, especially back “during their prime”.

Live From the Dark Globe which was included in the TAFH reissue was going to be the live album but it was never released at the time. Probably because Billy's vocals are crap in some parts. But I agree they definitely should've released one. Would have been a good stop-gap release in 1997 between albums.

What they should of done was record a live hourlong Silverfuck MCIS era jam and put that out.

plot twist, they will record a live album spring 2022 consisting mostly of SAOSB vol 4 with an extended jam version of "alienation (reprise)"

It blows my mind that Oceania Live In NYC wasn’t given a cd/vinyl release.

It should have been a cd or vinyl release instead of a dvd so we didn’t have to see Bollys Belly and his Ill fitting threads.

Actually, they could have titled it, “Billy's Belly and his Ill Fitting Threads”. That’s a good title. Or a good band name.

Earphoria did come to mind, but it isn't live enough and isn't branded as such. I totally forgot about the NYC Oceania DVD. I guess If All Goes Wrong is also in that boat. But I agree with everyone saying that it would have made more sense to have done an MCIS-era live album. That would have actually sold. I didn't know Dark Globe was going to do that - it would have been cool. Also the Euro 1997 show with the guitar versions of Batman and Eye would have been unique, or the early Adore tour Stumbeline. Those songs could have been tossed on. But one of the things that makes a lot of live albums cool is that they are just one show; it seems SP couldn't be consistent enough to produce a good live cut. Certainly no Live at Leeds moments.

Oh interesting, I didn't know that. Outside of the song with the SP lyrics that speak to me the most (Slunk Live in Japan), I usually associate that CD with Bugg Superstar and Why am I so Tired? both non-live tracks. But yeah there's a good case that it is a live album.

That CD had weird distribution though. It looked so much less professional than their other releases. And while I owned a copy, I rarely saw it for sale. Come to think of it TAFH had much more a live album product vibe to it with its liner notes about touring. But no live tracks in the original release.

Plus u need a 3D DVD player and a 3d tv and 3d glasses to even try to begin to think about watching it as the artists intended

these promos could also qualify:

http://spfreaks.com/item/live-at-cabaret-metro-10-5-88/

http://spfreaks.com/item/live-in-chicago-23-10-95-2/

http://spfreaks.com/item/live-bercy/

or that "en concierto en mexico". (only a handful of songs, just like the "live in chicago" one.)

Yeah, I only really brought up Oceania because people seemed to be under the impression it was video only, but there were a few different versions: DVD, 2CD/DVD, and Blu-Ray.

That 20 years of sadness box has some fucking great shows on it. Dunno what the one on USB is

they really seemed to love that Riviera concert, i feel like that would've been the one to get the official full video/live album treatment considering how many incarnations i've seen it in by this point

The soundboards were supplied by the band, I believe they were selling them through the SP website at the time

I remember buying a couple of those shows in audio files.
They weren't completely awful. more like half and half.

Halloween show had some weird ass covers.

Untroo fan alert!! I never had Earphoria until the 2002 reissue. I'm pretty sure the 94 release was super limited.

This is how things should have gone in my opinion:

1996: MTV Unplugged.
Could have really capitalized on MCIS as well as TAFH's acoustic songs. Can you imagine an unplugged set with To Forgive, In the Arms of Sleep, Rotten Apples, Thirty-Three, Medellia, Ugly, Tonight, Tonight, 1979. It would have been massive.

1997: Live Inside the Dark Globe
Could have done the studio enhancement thing like Led Zeppelin's live releases. This would keep the spirits high while the band started to wind down the touring.

1998: Billy releases Adore as a solo album.
Give the band a full rest. Everyone scales back and does their own thing.

2000: Full fledged Numetal Pumpkins album.
The band catches the trend late, but really capitalizes on it. Waves of success that rival summer '96.

can't find much info about those USBs.
there's some here: http://spfreaks.com/item/sprc-2/
they're from 2011.

love this. i think i read on spfc they were supposed to film an episode of unplugged in summer 96 [pre-heroin too] but it got cancelled for some reason

failing that, MTV could've just put out the full 10 song set from brixton that they ALREAD FUCKING HAD FOOTAGE OF. or corgan could've PUT OUT THE SBD OF THAT, OR THE WHOLE FUCKING GIG, THAT HE ALREADY HAD A COPY OF

fuck

i guess there is a weird sort of magic in the amt#1. the tape hiss and the feeling of a gig being ephemeral
