I think he gets off on the sheer thrill of it. Somewhere along the way, acting in movies became very boring to him. But acting like an American dissident currying the favor of various dictators and drug lords (who seem to end up sick, in jail or dead after meeting him) is a rush nothing else can match.

the conspiracy buzz is that the CIA done in Hugo Chavez. Never occurred to me that it could possibly be Penn, but with this El Chapo stuff out there now, its entirely plausible. Chavez, Raul Castro, Tareq Aziz and others he's actually met within a context of empathy towards them which make them welcome him.

That's gold to the CIA, whether they cultivated it with him or not. Surely they tapped him at some point. I'm just wondering if its as far back as his Falcon and the Snowman days.

It's the right movie, I ain't talking bout that other one. I'm no huge fan of Sean Penn, but I'm no hater either, despite his overt communistic philosophies.

But if he's a spy, he's gonna have to keep up this buffoonery of looking foolish at times to keep his cover. I'm just not sure if he really has that in him. More likely he's an asset tapped by intelligence to be privy of his whereabouts when he goes on these visits.

Maybe instead of hiring world-famous actors to be spies and hoping they ClarkKent enough that nobody suspects them, maybe the U.S. government just hires people that aren't world famous as spies.

Argo? Or more specifically, Tony Mendez. It takes years to maybe never to have an agent infiltrate and gain access to the types of people some celebrities can. Do you really think Dennis Rodman wasn't talked to by the agencies after visiting Dear Leader of NK twice . Usually the CIA had to sway those Swedish blonde hookers his father had a penchant for to get that close.


Paranoia? Where? How am I paranoid speculating about Sean Penn and the C.I.A.? Being an Asset is much different than Agent.


He's had front door access to some of worlds most powerful people at the most crucial of moments in their history. If you don't think the Central Intelligence Agency at least tapped his ass, then you're just a fool.
