Well, it's just London (I live in Cambridge, so it's nearby), and then I'll be in the US for two weeks. I'm doing Chicago > Denver > Seattle. In Seattle, I'm actually staying with a friend from the first oboard (2000-2003) - she's been one of my best friends for years, but we've never met in person.

it was actually a bit disappointing.
too much documentary, not enough show. the documentary audio was playing through many parts and it was distracting.
i don't know. it wasn't bad, but i was expecting something else. more of a gig.

That's no bueno I'm sure there's a reason why... I'd the film cool? I really like the record. I can understand where things could not translate. I heard the zidane shows were good. Maybe they need to work out the kinks.

it's a bit of a weird documentary. quite gripping at times. very fragmented. just a collage of old footage of all sorts.
you can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1ID50UWE9Q

i now realise they played the entire film, with a lot of the spoken parts and other audio fragments still there, and played along with it. (a lot of the time the band was just sat on stage, not doing anything. there definitely wasn't much of a live flow.)

this of course explains why it felt more like watching a documentary than experiencing a live show, or even just listening to the album, which also flows better than the music in the film. the music originally served the footage, and in this set-up - playing along with the full documentary - that doesn't change very much.
i just hadn't realised this was the plan. i was expecting something else. oh well. it wasn't bad.

I saw the Brian Jonestown Massacre last night. They were great.

The venue was some douchey club, and they enforced a strict 10:00pm ending time so that they could resume their regular DJ club stuff quickly afterward. Since BJM was playing a three-hour set, this meant the opener had to be cancelled. I felt shitty for them. They are a small local band, and they could had gotten so much exposure by opening for an act like BJM.

Also, Newcombe seems... particular. He was calling out and cursing at band members and sound people on stage for fucking up.

Show was great, though.

Haven't seen that. Maybe I'll check it out.

Seeing The Besnard Lakes tomorrow (last time I was supposed to see them, the show was canceled by a flood). Might see Protomartyr as well this week.

Here's a list of shows i want to go to but in reality will probably not be able to go to from a mix of no money, no opportunity, or time:

07.13 - Camp Cope
07.15 - Deafheaven
07.17 - SP
07.21 - TV Girl
08.02 - Lil B
08.09 - Lil Uzi Vert OR Dead Sara
09.15 - Jay-Z/Beyonce
09.23 - Andrew WK
11.02 - Nicki Minaj

I've already seen Dfhvn, SP, Dead Sara, and AWK so those might be the first to fall off. Really want to try for Camp Cope and TV Girl. Already have a ticket for Bey/Jay and Lil B is an actual life goal.

He told me 'no.'
