Marvel to delay Civil War titles
Marvel Comics told comic retailers Tuesday afternoon that their highly succesful "Civil War" series will see some significant delays. Issue #4, originally schedued to ship tomorrow, has been moved back to September 20th, with issue #5 moving from an October release date to November 15th. Marvel issued the following corrections to their shipping list.
Over the next few weeks, the CIVIL WAR proper title and a few of the tie in books that are closely related to the story in the main book will be shipping later than originally planned. A bunch of assholes like Iron Man, Mr. Fantastic, Black Goliath, and Spider-Man are for it. A bunch of treason junkies like Captain America, Luke Cage, and the Young Avengers are against it. So they're all fighting and shit's going sideways. Any regular title with the Civil War brand on it indicates that it's an issue focusing on that character's involvement in the war. |

Well, on the plus side they won't have a billion artists on the final fucking issues. Anyone remember the clusterfuck the latter issues of Infinite Crisis turned into?

52 is a great download comic. I'm hooked on it. Hell if I'd pay over 3 bucks a week for a story that moves at that pace. Might be interesting in a nice big classy hardcover, though.

there's a rather well-reasoned post by the Civil War artist and the artist of The Ultimates (the other big book that Mark Millar writes) on Newsarama on the delays (not enough lead-in time, alot of work pilling up) and Bryan Hitch (Ultimates) states that its alot better to have a single artist on the book than a bunch of fill-ins, and brings up Dark Knight and Watchmen as examples.
Good read, and the first post response is this which I found really funny: You know what? Screw Marvel for scheduling this with inadequate lead time so that they basically knew they'd come to this position. And screw Hitch for defending it. Perhaps Hitch has forgotten that comics are still primarily a serialized monthly medium, and that the trade is not actually their standard format? It seems believable, considering how far from monthly he is. But mostly screw Marvel and this industry. It's one thing to try to hit a monthly schedule and to screw it up. It's another to go to press with a "monthly" book that you know won't be. And that other thing is called "fraud." This is one of the most disgusting and shameful moments I've seen out of this industry. hahahahahaahahahah, somebody run over his cat? |

Get Romitta Jr. Not a huge fan of his, but the history would work (both him and Baglet had ASM stints). Bags leaving is a huge blow, and I can barely fathom reading the book with a different artist since his influnce on the book is so huge (reading USM stories not drawn by Bagley always felt wrong to me) USM definitely need another big name associated with Spidey in there, so Romitta seems like a good idea.
Bad week for Marvel, eh?

I just hope they find someone and stick with them, even if it meant a few late shipments here and there. I can't imagine USM with a rotating stable of shitty artists |
