they're called mid level providers and they are going to take over. NPs and PAs. just like LMHCs and MFTs have taken over therapy. i'd still rather see a psychologist that actually has research training and is used to more severe cases but that doesn't mean they are any better at therapy in the end

if i wanted to just do therapy i'd go for masters level in a heartbeat. it makes sense. but i want to do forensic which is largely assessment and brief interventions and you need a PhD for that

I would think that a plastic surgeon named "Dr. Pincock" would specialize in the reconstruction of a different organ.

Tobias Pincock sounds like a comic book villain name to me.

My wife is an np and knows way more than the stupid fuckin doc in her clinic

Docs have lot more school and training which is how they justify the pay, but yeah

Today on the train coming home from work, this woman wearing wool gloves in 13°C (55°F) weather handed a person sitting across from her a container of cinnamon Tic Tacs, asking her to open it. Upon being handed back the container, the woman proceeds to shake the container into her mouth, consuming the Tic Tacs as if they are a beverage.

A few stops later, the person she had previously asked has already departed. The woman takes out another container of Tic Tacs and extends it to me, saying "open, please." I am happy to comply. She again starts shaking the container into her mouth, creating a rhythmic rattling sound not unlike that produced by maracas.

When the train hits the end of the line, she remains on it.

Also, at the train station, a little girl having her wheelchair pushed by her mother asks her mother, "mum, remember when I was little and..."

The mother dryly replies, "When you were little? Let me think... no I can't remember, that was too long ago."

Heh, I've always been envious of those parent-child relationships that are comfortable enough to have sarcastic humour. I think that kid is going to grow up to be funny.

Every time I have to go to the dentist I think "this is the time they'll discover some horrible thing and i'll have to have teeth extracted and it's gonna be a whole thing"

But usually I just get there, do a routine cleanup and get sent home.

SO I KNOW YOU ALL WERE ON THE EDGE OF YOUR SEATS TO HEAR ABOUT MY TEETH:
Short story: they're great
Long story: I got there and filled out forms and tried to remember my ssn. I hope I got it right. They did all the X-rays they could squeeze out me and my insurance, including a panoramic that I wish I could have a copy of. Before it was developed the dentist came in and was like you haven't been to the dentist in 7 years? And he was scared. Then he was relieved and amazed that I didn't have braces and no gum bleeding and everything was good. He said "you have great teeth, and that means something coming from a dentist". My last dentist said the something to the same effect. Then I got my teeth cleaned and set another exam because I guess I do two a year? For October. I didn't like the teeth cleaning. Very wet. Water splashed on my glasses.

What they don't know is that I take good care of my teeth. This doesn't necessarily mean that I'll never have problems, but it certainly helps. It also helps that I was born with the privelege of well aligned teeth. This is not something that is unique to my family, so it was total luck. But actively taking care of them does help your chances. It took a lot of mistreatment before going to the dentist the last time before this and getting all my fillings put back in and finding out what one has to do to keep their teeth

If anyone wants any teeth or gum advice then just ask.

if you have great teeth, once a year should amply suffice

you have a civic right?
i got an estimation last year to fix A/C: around 850$ (cdn)
of course it depends on the actual problem, but a mechanic at honda told me they always fail on that model and they keep replacing them on, so it's probably always the same problem.

$250-$1000 depending on what it is

probably they will charge you about $150 to recharge it and put dye in it and then you'll come back and they'll see where the leak is. if it's just a leak in a hose or something it'll be like $100 more to fix it and recharge it again. probably it'll be a component that will be more than that. it's also possible it's not actually your A/C but some kind of electrical problem (if it's not blowing at all)

i'm no expert though

that sucks

my car model's recurring problem is broken outer door handles. all 4 of mine broke. you have to take off the entire door panel to fix them so labor itself is like 2 hours and even on ebay the handles themselves are like $25 each. double at a car place. $300-400 to fix door handles smh.

you know what's funny, the car guy fixed two of my handles and may have fixed my a/c. they at least recharged it. so that's like $300 of free work i got done. i mean i paid $1000 deductible but they didn't have to do either of those things. he told me he put on handles for me but didn't say anything about the a/c so maybe somehow they thought the accident caused the a/c problem. doubtful.

That was really nice of them. I had to ask for air in my tires and I don't even hate my mechanic
