Yeah exactly, my theory has always been that around the early 00's when the internet really took off he started reading every negative comment he could find and from there the decline started.

People can bitch and moan about D'Arcy green lighting all the "good" songs during the glory days, but the reality is that he was still writing and performing just fine without her throughout the Machina era, and especially fucking Zwan.

This latest IG post just looks similar to the same shit we've seen before when he was doodling up all the Teargarden tracks on the white board. Stop reading the internet Bollz!

FWIW wasn't it Rider that commented on the lack of electric guitars leading to the Chicago Songs being "put in a can" ? Lol you bastard!!! What do you have to say for yourself now?!

Maybe he's talking about the band as a whole?

I bet he's planning the same old bait and switch of releasing something for the mainstream and then following up with his artsy opus.

But Machina and Zwan weren't that great. Definitely no Mellon Collie or Adore or Siamese Dream or Gish great. Machina was the beginning of the downward spiral.

I really enjoyed MSOTS when it came out because Billy sounded happy and intentional. It’s still better than anything else he’s released in 15 years, but it hasn’t aged well and is kinda cheesy in retrospect.

I also love it, and sure it's frustrating that so many of the really good material didn't make the final cuts on the album but it isn't terrible by any means.

Why do most people here tend to judge Zwan solely on MSOTS!? Too many good live comps out there, or just soundboard shows that display how much more material they had, aside from being an amazing live band. I saw them once in 2001 (sans Paz) and again before the breakup in 2003 and both shows were just great.

Machina was most certainly not the start of the decline, no fucking way. He wrote a plethora of songs during and right after the Adore tour that would become all the Machina tracks (that we've heard so far), then straight onto Zwan with another 60-70 songs, then the Chicago Kid songs, and probably tons of other demos from that period right before the TFE era which IMO was still pretty good too.

Somewhere between Courtney Love, Jessica Simpson, Tila Tequila, and spending some time locked away in a house with Jimmy in Arizona he shat out Zeitgeist and the decline started from there.

You cannot deny these Zwan tracks though, they've aged quite well I think!

I'm not going to rehash my whole Zwan theory, but they were the rightful heirs to the next decade of Billy's career.

Billy blew it by attempting to use Zwan as a tool to reclaim his lost fame, rather than let it grow organically. His "don't you know who I am?" attitude killed a fucking amazing band. Check out those last festival pro shoots...they're phenomenal.

For one thing, they should have released an independent album by the initial lineup before Paz joined.

The Zwan album was great and fun and funny. Prob one of the greatest albums I got, in a good way I suppose. It seemed healthy times and Billys head wasn't stuck up his own arse being slowly digested
