then i'm finished until june 7th when i start calculus for business and social science but tim and i have a long day vacation planned from may 22-30. we'll be flying to arizona to stay for a few days in sedona; he rented a fairly secluded place off airbnb right off hiking trails and with a kitchen so we can cook. then we're heading to denver to visit his brother and brother's girlfriend. from there we are taking an 18-hour amtrak train home. i haven't allowed myself to think much or get excited about it because i wanted to focus on schoolwork. i can get excited about it now, though. i have wanted to go back to sedona for 13 years now. man, it's just so beautiful out there. i don't belong in the city anymore! |

i gotta leave real soon after we get back, though. i am riding the amtrak to a leadership summit with other members of student government that is june 1st and 2nd. then my parents are coming june 16-20 for my birthday/father's day. finally tim and i are going to LA for a wedding on june 22.
i'm looking forward to all those plans and obligations to be over with. but i am looking forward to them all. |

Getting good grades doesn't even drive up my self of steem anymore. And it's challenging plenty. I hate hearing that it isn't challenging for others. I don't want to go to work. I don't want to do anything.

so i got what i wanted and passed all my classes with As thus satisfying for a moment my soft competitive (with myself and when playing games) nature. i was worried that 18 credit hours would be too much and sometimes it felt like it was.
can't wait to take only one class this summer and work more while also looking for different work. and then i can start getting serious about transferring to school in Los Angeles. |

cool, congrats
my one class starts tomorrow. it only meets once a week. i've been doing some studying for math for the GRE. I need to get into the habit. I also need to do a good read of my old paper and start planning out how I'm going to expand it, as a first step to honors thesis. |

That's what I did last fall. but then this spring I got 2 As and 2 Cs. (professor actually changed the grading scale on that class I didn't pass, so I actually did pass it thank god) Can't believe I made it through. Taking a statistics class this summer and hopefully doing some more minimum wage pizza delivery shit if the manager ever calls me back. Should be a pretty decent few months |

congrats on the passing, ram
it's weird, class is tomorrow but the professor hasn't set up anything on canvas, the online portal. usually there is a syllabus at least. i like predictability. don't fuck with me professor mostly kidding |

I went on to mine this Monday forgetting that the class begins the 22. I was ready. My refractory period isn't as long as I thought.

i got my president's list letter today. always a welcome sight.
so my research methods class is going to be a pain. i dropped the last one i tried to take cuz it wasn't going to teach me anything and it appears i should be careful what i wish for. going to have to really be on my game to get an A in this class. and for the actual paper you have to meet certain deadlines in order to get access to all the questions on the non-paper related tests. so no waiting until the last minute. topic is boring as shit to me, language. we each have to get two people foreign born with ESL, and have them fill out a questionnaire (that has been scientifically vetted to show certain things). i got my two people already. one from brazil and one from russia. then the TAs will pool our data and we have to come up with some kind of novel idea for a paper based on the data, using certain sources plus some we find on our own. i just wish it was something i had more interest in. i should learn a lot tho. also yesterday i thought i forgot my wallet at home and my gas tank was on empty (and class is 30 miles away), i didn't realize until i got to class. but i knew someone from my old classes was going to be at this one and she let me borrow $10 thank jesus. then today i searched my car (i didnt get home until 11pm last night) and it was in my car the whole time. boo-urns i also started this 90 day math study plan for the GRE. i think for the verbal i basically just need to study vocab. math is another story. i just signed up for a calculus class so that i could get it out of the way while it's easier (in community college and right after the summer taking the previous requisite math class). now i'm full-time and only in three classes. calculus is online. one of my science classes will be saturday morning. and the other every tuesday and thursday evening.
i've started my common appplication, but i'll need to see my transfer advisor about my essays. i hate writing about myself like that and need some direction. |

ram and erica, what degree/s are you trying to earn? i'm a political science major for now, but once i transfer i'll be majoring in public policy or pre-law (and minoring in chicano studies or criminology- or maybe both!) but taking pre-law is kind of a promise to myself to go all the way, ya know. that's a biiiig long commitment.

i hated applying so much. having to talk yourself up and wank over how many extracurriculars or life experiences or whatever is awful. i think i wrote my essay about learning drums and joining marching band |

are you in college straight out of high school (i have no idea how old you are) or are you an "old" student like erica and me?
as of yesterday i was part-time at 7 hours but decided to add calculus and got lucky that it is 5 credit hours. i really didn't want to take 4 classes, but i did want to be full-time because i get more financial aid and my transportation (CTA pass) is paid for monthly, which is a huge help. good luck in your studies! are you pumped about any of the courses you're taking? |
