I mean, it's bad, but I've heard WAY worse in the myriad of shitty SP covers

Evasl's cover of Try is something I enjoy listen to.

God Box - Frail n Bedazzled
Novena - Luna
Ketamine - Disarm

Natalie Smith's 1979 & Elseworth's Tryx3 are fine but I could see why people wouldn't like them.

I guess I was hoping people would embed shitty tribute covers. Or even good ones.
So that we could enjoy listening to them.

Oh man, in college I had a friend who did music reviews for the student newspaper and he gave me that gothic-industrial tribute album, unlistened to, and I'd forgotten about it until now

Without a doubt the cruelest thing anyone's ever done to me

Gonna try that Vanna cover of Zero in a bit

most sp covers i've heard have been "functional" at best

take that Between the Buried and Me cover of Geek, for example. nothing particularly wrong with it, it just has next to nothing of what made the original so kick-ass in the first place. They might as well have simply programmed the song in Logic or something, for the emotional resonance & fluidity of people actually playing together that it carried (or well, didn't)

there was one female singer/guitarist who did quite a few of their songs justice a while ago, bringing out a lot of charm & for lack of better word, whimsy in the later songs you don't fully get from post-Machina Bill

I don't think this is terrible!

First impression was that I wished the singer could vary his screaming a bit, but I realize the original song is a constant drone

that's my problem with a lot of male-driven SP covers, really. They often completely forego the more "effete" side of Billy's delivery/the Pumpkins overall sound for something that basically equates to ball-grabbing, bullshit hard rock

but hey, to each their own!

Why is it always 2000s emo/screamo/metalcore bands that namecheck and cover The Pumpkins?

yeah it's not like it's amazing, but it's not bad. it showed up on my 'discover weekly' list on spotify out of nowhere, and kinda liked it.

i'll admit, i liked it better as audio-only, liked it a bit less after the video. i think what i like most about it are 1.) the guy yelling "yeah!!" right in the beginning and 2.) have heard the original so many times (especially unenthusiastic live renditions from bill) at this point that i forgot what made it good in the first place, and the first half or so reminded me of the power behind the song

pretentious, contrived, fascist, yet he also calls the 1/2 half of Closer - one of the starkest things I have ever heard (i love it) - beautiful. George Michael is an interesting guy

that was just referring to their image

tbh it's a bit of a stretch considering they didn't lean too heavily (really at all) on the origins of their name aside from that first EP cover, and aside from a few Saville sleeves and fairly stripped down live/TV performances i'm not really sure what presented image he's even judging so harshly here
