Well, it's a Rolling Stone review. I don't really trust reviews anymore, especially the big media. Spin and Rolling Stone both gave the newest Metallica album great reviews, which thrilled me as a Metallica fan--until I heard the CD for myself. I don't know much about the industry, but I'm pretty sure it's a money thing.

This isn't to say I'm not excited about Hail to the Thief. I intend to buy it the day it's released. I'm just commenting on the media in general, and how they'll say anything that will sell magazines.

Well, to me Pitchfork is the most useful of all the review outlets, if only because they publicize so much that slips underneath the radar of, say, Spin. I've never really let a review influence what I think of a band or CD, but if Rolling Stone says the Electric Six's new album is great and Pitchfork says it sucks, I'll be a little more wary when I first listen to it.

I think I kind of lost the point in there. Sorry.

Don't be so nice.

Mainstream magazines have notoriously star-driven, money-driven taste in music. The cutting edge for Rolling Stone is The Rising--it's all banal idol worship twinged with a populist streak, which means albums that are a bit more experimental often get the shaft at the expense of sugarcoated, easy-to-handle stuff that is instantly forgettable. For the average pop fan, the reviews work well; if you want to dig deeper, you can pretty much forget about anything they have to say.

radiohead is like the only mainstream band pitchfork creams itself over.

that being said they will not like HTTT because radiohead are far too popular now.

It really depends on who reviews it.

i hope brian decrazenizcioooncizoniczio reviews it so it gets an unjustly high score.

that being said, i'd still give it a 9.0

The #1 and #2 debuts of Kid A and Amnesiac and their subsequent 9 - 10.0 ratings absolutely never happened.
