I feel like with that extended outro we got a little taste of what this song is meant to be:

whir--another recorded in an hour type thin years that has been in the box. part of the glynis line lineage- sweeet and saddness just ended up here. sometimes when i listen to this i hear who we really are. frail and gentle- it is what is. rock powerx100.. note scary endin we would play that part for 15 minutes dum-de-dum-de dum.

It's weird because you hear something like that demo of 'cardinal rule' from just months ago, and it sounds completely fine.. but for whatever reason during these shows it's almost as if he's trying to sing that way.

the sans-consonants singing seems to be making an unfortunate comeback from the Zeitgeist era. It was definitely worse then though

I believe there are a couple reasons for it- 1) easier to find a pitch without a hard consonant. 2) fighting feedback on stage. I doubt he is singing with much volume - less strain on his voice - and pops and cracks will add to the likelihood of feedback occurring. with a mostly acoustic setup this could be disastrous

I think it's just an issue of vocal strain. It's a band-aid fix because proper vocal technique would change his tone too much -Billy has sung from the head his whole life (which is bad technique and unsustainable). Do we really want him singing these songs as a baritone? nope.

look up all you want. having worked in the studio and in live sound for 15 years i can tell you its absolutely true. Is that the the case in this instance? Maybe not, but plosives plus heavily amplified acoustic instruments are hell.
