Been going through this thread from page 1 - was away for a bit there - and even though I'm sure this won't come up again on page 5 or 6 - this just blew my mind. Never noticed this in the liner notes/knew this.

Very interesting because it is EASILY the best song they've written since re-forming. Like, bar none.

it's really lovely except the horribly, horribly dry drum production

Default Hating the new music is a privilege

The opposite of love is not hate. The opposite of love is apathy.

I know Jimmy and James and [some part of] Billy are all capable of burning the lies off our souls. So when this comes out, it’s just….deeply depressing

~

I love the first few Foo Fighters albums. But the later ones are so bland. They’re technically Foo Fighters, I guess. But I just…don’t care about them. It’s rock music…I guess. It has Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins….cool.

Say what you will about Billiam Patrick Corgan but at least we have strong reactions to what he’s putting out. being able to yearn for james iha is a beautiful thing. maybe it's better this way - let the wish unwished, the hope unhoped play freely in your mind. if james and jimmy really let loose on a track we'd be 16 again

that’s better than nothing…right?

Yeah, the Foo Fighters meteoric rise in popularity is kind of weird. Like the first 3 albums, you could probably add the fourth, are cool and there was definitely room for an alt band that had more fun and carried less emotional baggage. 95-02 Foo Fighters makes a lot of sense, but I don't really get how they became like 10x as big later on.

Time is never time at all
You can never ever leave
Without leaving a piece of youth
And our lives are forever changed
We will never be the same
The more you change the less you feel

They had a 3 album run with, wasting light, sonic highways, and concrete gold. (They only started sounding digital on concrete and gold.) These 3 albums are better than the last 3 pumpkins albums. Oceania, MTAE, shiny 1 (and 2).
See: I should have known. Outside. Run. (Respectively, for proof)

Yeah...two albums are cool, but then it's bland-town usa.

Strangely, I think Dave's new song for that kid is the most Foo Fighters sounding thing since the first album -which is probably because Dave's doing the whole thing. MAYBE THAT'S THE SECRET SAUCE.

hahaha it's like anti-billy. dave's too nice and needs to ignore everyone else and just make music he knows is good

Someone mentioned that he said in a new interview he stopped working on Vol. 3 because “I need the others” which to me would indicate Vol. 2 is more of an all Billy deal. The first four songs certainly bear that possibility out.

yeah, we're long past the days of the long hours of practice in that Chicago parking garage. Jimmy and James will be on this album somewhere whether its actually noticeable or not, whether they actually care about being on it or what the songs are like is another question

Not necessarily. He might have been thinking that Vol 3 needed a band dynamic, in other words, playing live / jamming / improv etc. You need to be in the room together to do that.

For the Cyr stuff, that can be recorded in different parts, with contributions flown in and edited together.

why would an album by a band not need a band dynamic
