they both looked wired & tired on speed

this is interesting... question about thoughts on Zeitgeist a year later, Billy says, "at the time I thought it was the beginning, but now I think it's the ending" and the camera pans to Jimmy looking completely detached and zonked out. hilarious. and Billy's answer actually gives some insight into the thought process behind the antagonistic vibe of the 2008 shows and the 20th anniversary tour in particular.

I can only assume "the ending" means his realization that you can't get "your band back, and your dreams," by releasing a below mediocre album of songs copying your older style with only 50% of the original band.

it's frustrating to listen to billy because his worldview and beliefs are constantly changing and evolving to explain how whatever hardship he is enduring as an artist right now is the fault of anyone but himself, and he's always speaking in positive terms (i.e. absolute). if he ever just said you know I thought this thing but it was wrong, or I changed my mind, or I know better now, it wouldn't be so obnoxious to me.

but his approach is almost orwellian, like the rules change over and over and the subtext is like don't bring up that the rules have changed, they've always been this way

there was some really weird stuff goin on between Bill and Jim in 2008 though. In hindsight it makes sense because Jimmy was gone soon after, but he just seemed really unhappy to be there towards the end. I remember this weird ass interview on local radio around that period where Billy was going on about how he never takes drugs or medicine of any kind because they pollute his sacred temple body blah blah and the interviewer was like so you don't take pain killers, and Bill was like no, and the interviewer was like what if you were dying and needed medicine, and Bill was like well I would die that's God's path for me. AND THEN Billy said how everyone in the band is expected to be on that train because they all need to be at peak condition or whatever horseshit, and Jimmy, sounding like a tired zombie, echoed back exactly what Billy had just said

it was creepy, like I really felt he had been forced to say it

it's the first time I've come across an SP and Castaneda overlap...
