It's not available now, is it? I got a peculiar notification in my system tray to reserve my free upgrade, which is supposed to download once it's available.
Apparently it will be released on July 29 |

Someone tried explaining to me why there won't be a windows 9 but it just sounds like the Y2K bug, only way more inconsequential

Well we already know 10 will be more advanced than 9 so why not just go straight to that?
In fact, I'm wondering why they're not just making 11 instead. |

It probably won't. Windows 7 runs better than Vista, and I've heard Windows 8 has some pretty good performance gains under the hood (interface sucks, though).
But yeah, I'd wait for reviews and a service pack before updating. No reason to move to 10 right away. |

I'm still on Vista. No update for me.
So how can you now reserve your free copy of Windows 10? First, you must be running Windows 7 Service Pack 1 or Windows 8.1, and you must have installed a March the Windows update dubbed KB3035583, according to blog site VentureBeat. That update will already be on your PC as long as you have Automated Updates enabled. Peek at your Windows system tray in the lower right corner, and you should see a new icon displaying the Windows logo. Hover over it, and the popup messages says: "Get Windows 10." Click that icon, and up pops a window that explains how the free upgrade works. Once it's available, Windows 10 will automatically download onto your PC. You'll receive a notification after the download is complete so that you can choose an appropriate time to install it. You can scroll through the various screens of the Get Windows 10 window to read more about the new OS. When you're done, simply click the button to reserve your free upgrade. The reservation screen asks for your email address so you can receive the notification. Enter your email address and click the Send confirmation button. You can now close the Get Windows 10 window. Should you change your mind and wish to cancel the reservation, just click the Get Windows 10 icon again. Click the three horizontal lines in the upper left corner to display the menu and click the link for View confirmation. Then click the link to Cancel reservation and click the button for Cancel reservation to confirm your choice. |

it's also why Windows 7 is actually Windows version 6.1. just so programs that ran on Vista would run on 7 too.
Vista release was awful because lots of XP programs were incompatible for no good reason. they just refused to operate on a version they didn't recognize (i.e. they checked that major number was 4 or 5). |

I have that icon too
I want windows 10 just because of the start menu (I'm new to the 8.1) Everything else looks the same, except, maybe, there is no IE now They say this preview version is only for keyboard+mouse users, the touch functionalities are the ones that are still missing |

I just hope there is an option to go back to 7 if 10 turns out to suck. I doubt there will be, so I guess that means I have to back up my system just in case or something computery like that, right?
I only used 8 when I had a loaner computer while mine was being repaired. Fuck, having two interfaces was annoying, especially because they didn't even fucking talk to each other. Like, you have IE open in desktop mode, accidentally switch to Metro mode, and have another IE application there that doesn't have the tabs and history and shit of the other. Like, whose idea was that? I hope his or her family is poor now. I've noticed... and this is just me talking... that Microsoft seems to release a crappy version of Windows, and then a better version soon after, that they must had been working on before the shit version was released. Like, they release Vista, which is incompatible with everything, and them pretty quickly release 7, which fixes a lot of those problems. They release 8, which has features many complain about, then release 10, which addresses those issues. Feels like they just rush out crappy products to tide them over until the actual good product they are working on is completed. That's just my conspiracy theory. I'm omegaly concerned about this. |

You can also boot to the desktop and get rid of all the crap that pops up when you point your mouse to various corners of the screen. It also intergrates itself right into the OS so there's no extra services or processes running for it to work. I've practically forgotten that I even have the metro start screen |

I don't have any start menu apps. I boot to desktop, and the only time I go to the metro screen is to open apps, where there is just a list of apps ordered by how often I use them, which is actually pretty useful. I set it up like this as soon as I got the computer. There's an icon where the start menu button would be, or I press the windows key to get to the metro screen. It's good like this.
